If I had no advice...I'd probably say something like this one day "honey, did you eat some garlic or something today, you're breath smells a little funky"...try to make it a playful but serious thing and make it seem like a just one time issue at first to kind of soften the blow

What you have to worry about is if he has an oral issue, like gingivitis or something. You tell him you will be permanently turned off if he doesnt do something about it. That will make him act fast. Hopefully he just has to brush more.
Queen Zenobia Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 Why does he have bad breath? Does he not brush his teeth? If that's the case then a quick trip to the dentist should clear up everything. Otherwise a more creative approach might be needed.
Finch Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 Normally I would advise a softly softly approach to informing someone about a personal issue, but in this case I advocate for being more direct. Not mean, of course, but honest. Offering a mint is not a bad suggestion, but it might be a little vague. What if he turns it down? You could go for one of two approaches. The first is the "surprise and inform". As you lean to kiss you simply say, "Whoa. Your breath is bad". It sounds hurtful, but the key here is that you are not telling him his breath is always bad. You're just instilling the thought that perhaps he should pay more attention to his breath in the future. If that does not work, then it may be time to sit down and just spill it. Tell him "I really like you, but your breath is often bad. I want to keep dating you. We need to figure out a solution." Bad breath can be fixed, but he needs to know there's a problem.
