Saxis Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Male Age: 29 Height: 5'8" Weight: 165 Waist: 32-34 The last couple years I've put more on in the mid-section. X was fattening me up! I'm small framed and probably appear shorter than I am. I'd like to stay around this weight, tone the middle and bulk up my arms and legs though. I've got a crappy cell pic in my profile, but it doesn't show much.
Engadget Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Male 5'10'' 200lbs Waist: 34 I'm overweight (obviously) but I don't give a ****. In a month I could be down to 180, which is my normal weight but the BS BMI index says still isn't normal for me. BMI is a joke by the way.
lastresort Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 I wouldn't take all of what you read on here too seriously. You can kind of read through those that are being truthful. It is really easy to type what you want when you have no one to answer too. Male, 37, 6'2", 260lbs, 36"W I have lost 50lbs since January and still going in that direction. have dropped 6" off my waist. I do prefer a tall women 5'8" or taller, body size doesn't really bother me. sounds cheesy but a good personality and confidence is what i look for. I was in a marriage that until about a month ago i thought was right, now that i have been "freed" i realize that I was not the person she married and she is not the one i married, now i look for a girl that likes me for who i am. I am a bit on the crazy out-going side and that is not what my STBXW wanted and i formed into the person she wanted and i hated me and her for it. Now raising my two sons is very important to me, which i have 4 days a week, she was all about money and buying a big home and living a fake life we couldn't afford, i like to survive and just have a good time.
lastresort Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 (edited) Male BMI is a joke by the way. i totally agree... people are always blown away when i tell them what i weigh. They say dude your not that big. I am a big guy played football through college. I am actually smaller than most my friends. I will never be "Normal" size. BUt it's OK cause i will kick your A** if you have something to say to me. lol Edited July 12, 2011 by lastresort
stefspets Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Just got on the scale this morning and it read 152. I'm PMSing though so I like to think that's closer to 149. But yes, I'm positive! That's how much I weigh! My BFF weighs about 15 less than I do, is shorter, and yet is physically larger - at least in the hips/butt. You said you're really active, right? So that weight for you includes a lot of muscle mass and is healthy. I'm 5'9", ~150 pounds (F). I feel skinny fat though--I'm not overweight by BMI measures, and I feel ok but I know I could use more muscle. I'm not really wanting to change my weight, just my body composition.
GorillaTheater Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 5'9", 165 lbs, 32" waist. For a guy pushing 50, I figure I'm doing okay.
make me believe Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 28 years old 5'7" 120 lbs I vacillate between 115 and 120. Ive been this weight since I was about 20 and I'm happy with it. In high school I was the same height and only about 105 lbs. I think I looked too skinny. I am small framed though and had a hard time gaining any weight. I have a twin sis with the same stats as me.
fishtaco Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Male 40 yrs old 5'10" 165 lbs I can wear 32 - 34 pants. But 34 would be a bit loose on me. BMI says I'm fat at 176. My goal is to exceed that and not be fat. But I'm a hard gainer, so progress is slow.

I am only one pant size bigger than you. What the hell is the point of BMI anyway if there is so much fail involved?

What the hell is the point of BMI anyway if there is so much fail involved? BMI is an approximation (just like IQ tests, SATs, and other standardized forms of testing/measuring). You can't expect it to be a perfect reflection of every single person's level fitness. That doesn't make a joke. Are you familiar with the concept of standard deviation? Also, I'm not sure where you're going with the pant size comment. You could have an average size waist but be fat in other areas. Every person is different.

Also, I'm not sure where you're going with the pant size comment. You could have an average size waist but be fat in other areas. Every person is different. Except I'm not fat in other areas. Size L shirts fit me perfectly, XL is way too big for me. Comparing BMI to SATs or IQ tests is sill by the way. Yea, there's a standard deviation with those tests (for instance, depending on the test or the time of day, or my mood, I can score anywhere between 120-140 on an IQ test) but I wouldn't consider the problems with BMI a standard deviation at all. In fact, it isn't even an approximation of anything. It doesn't factor in muscle mass (which most people know that muscle is much heavier and denser than fat) and bone density. BMI isn't approximating anything, it's a useless statistic.

What the hell is the point of BMI anyway if there is so much fail involved? So, are you fat? Or do you just have lots of muscle? It's a scale that doesn't work well for athletes (I think (american) football players have already been mentioned) who tend to have an over-abundance of muscle, but then those people represent only a small portion of the population for their age so they are far from typical. (Too much muscle isn't natural, either, but I don't think it's linked to health problems in the same way as too much fat.) For more typical people, BMI can be a good guide to whether a person is overweight or not, but since it's just a chart that says "more weight for your height equals fatter" then of course it's not going to be perfect. Oh, and since I don't think I've posted to this thread before, I'm somewhere over 6ft tall, in my late 30s, with a BMI of between 19 and 21 depending on how much cake I eat. ie, tall and slim. My inside leg measurement, mother's maiden name, and all the other details you'll need to steal my identity are written on a post-it note hidden under the wrist-rest of my keyboard.

I've been hitting the gym on much more average, non-professional basis, and measured BMI of nearly overweight, with BF of 11.4% at the time. BTW too little fat isn't healthy either. Now I'm around 75 kg, 175 cm (should be about 150 lbs, 5'10'' in your lovely imperial measurements). Edited July 15, 2011 by rafallus

True, and I acknowledged this when I went on to say: but since it's just a chart that says "more weight for your height equals fatter" then of course it's not going to be perfect. Ok, so by "nearly overweight" I assume you mean "normal weight", which is what the category below "overweight" is usually called. What's the problem?

whichwayisup Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 I'm brand new to these forums, but after reading through several threads, I'm just trying to figure out how representative these people are of the average population. I've seen a lot of men and women refer to women who are, say 5'2, 130lbs as "thick" or big, when to me, as a woman quite a bit larger, that seems like a normal, even ideal frame. Size 12 seems to conjure the word obesity more often than not. I know everyone has different tastes, and I always try to account for that when participating in online forums in general, but this particular site is really making me take a hit on self-esteem. I'm sincerely hoping that the general population on here is younger and fitter than average because otherwise, I'm in bigger trouble than I thought. Anyway, I'll start: 33 5'5" 168lbs 12/14 3 feet tall, can breathe through my ears, have no teeth and can do some pretty cool tongue tricks.. Just being a smart ass here..
