Ally-65 Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 As the title says: What is love? We are or have been telling our ex's we love them. They have been telling us that they love us. They break up or we do. So what the .... was the love bit then? Is it how you feel at that particular moment? Is it how you WANT to feel? How you THINK you feel? How can that "word" be so powerful?
ScienceGal Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 It is a word that is overused because words are easy to say. It is only proven real when the speaker's actions support it. This is through honesty, respect, adoration, unselfishness, humblness, and sacrifice. When two people truly love one another, and can do such things for each other, a magnificent relationship can exist.

It's probably the avatar name but I couldn't help reading your quote in a Vulcan type monotone . And yes it is often over used. I find it to be so much more endearing when it is spoken more deliberately than a simple salutation.
amethyste Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 LOVE, n. A temporary insanity curable by marriage or by removal of the patient from the influences under which he incurred the disorder. This disease, like caries and many other ailments, is prevalent only among civilized races living under artificial conditions; barbarous nations breathing pure air and eating simple food enjoy immunity from its ravages. It is sometimes fatal, but more frequently to the physician than to the patient. - Ambrose Bierce

Forever Learning Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 once an old friend told me that the reason I stayed in a bad relationship was not that I loved him but that I loved being in love. that got me thinking and to some extent she was right. I most certainly wanted to be in love. so I constantly overlooked so much of his bad qualities just to try and love the few crumbs of goodness I found in him. weird stuff indeed, this business of being a female human.
Crisis Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Not just you forever, I think I might have had the same problem. Maybe that's why break ups are good sometimes, even though we don't want them, they teach us that some things are not what we see them as. The feeling that your wanted and have someone there to hold you is much more comforting than any therapy you could encounter.
HeartOfAPhoenix Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 What is love? "The Heart has reasons that reason does not understand" ^^^ according to that quote we'll never know lol
HeartOfAPhoenix Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Being in love is only temporary, however, and rarely lasts. depressing.... I'm still a believer lol
FinOuch Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Hahaha I can't help it. When I read the title, what immediately popped into my head was: "baby don't hurt me. Don't hurt me. No more." Sorry if I just got that song stuck in someone else's head. Sort of.
