It's been quite a while since my ex broke up with me, and I am finding the worst part about it now is that I am throughally lonely. All of my friends are currently in relationships, and many of them refuse to hang out with me any more because they think that I will only talk about my ex. I'm very shy and find it hard to meet people anyway. But I am so desperately lonely! Does anybody have any advice on how I can meet new people and make new friends?

I'm pretty shy too and I moved to a place were I didn't know any one very well. I met my current roommate through work, but I didn't know any one beyond that. So, I tried to take up a hobbie - drawing. I took a drawing class and met some people. Every town has continuing education classes and have a variety of them. Take a class in something you're interested and that way you'll meet someone that has a common interest as you. Maybe you can meet people through that person. Also volunteering is a good way to meet people. Just remember not to turn down an opportunity to socialize with new people. If you're really daring (I'm not yet) you can try using a service through match.com or something like that.

Good luck
