DL716 Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 I took her name off all the accounts but one checking account. I had to, to protect the family from her squandering our assets. Now we are neck deep in debt with only my name on the credit card accounts. Is what I did legal? Is she responsible for any of the debt? What if I put her name back on now, before we file?
coolheadal Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Who's the head of the household? Who's paying the bills? Who's primary name that setup the bills in the first place? These are the questions you need to ask yourself. If this is you. Then you have the right to add and remove names. I've taken the wife off my car insurance and saved $18 bucks for doing so. A check is in the mail! JC I can't touch though. I can transfer funds for bills which are in her name. That's what I am doing.
PegNosePete Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Well you don't say where you are, but if you're divorcing in the UK, it is largely irrelevant whose name is ion the bills or accounts.
