Ally-65 Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Maybe I'm just ranting here... but I seriously dont get this and I feel like i'm using so much emotional energy trying to understand... Why do people tell each other: they love them, they want to be together for ever, you make me so happy blah, blah, blah Then break up, and just get on with their lives.. Is it just me? Am I "old fashioned" in thinking one shouldn't say those things unless they are meant? Any insight into this would really help...

My ex said all these things to me a few days before we had a fight and he broke up with me. It still confuses me too.
lovehurts161 Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 The same things happened to me. When he broke up with me I kept asking myself did he really mean it? Then I tried to comfort myself by thinking probably he truly meant it, but for THAT moment only. That way at least I know he loved me, sincerely. Although deep down I still feel like I'm trying to cheat myself with the thought [sigh].
krifle04 Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 When I asked him why 3 days earlier he was telling me he wanted to be with me forever, he couldn't give me an answer. I think he honestly meant it, but didn't think it could happen anymore.

lonelynyc Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 I like to think that people aren't that callous, although dealing with a break-up myself right now its hard to reconcile that notion with reality. Maybe they say those things to us and feel them when they say it, but the other part of them is filled with turmoil and doubt, the type of stuff that can pollute and ruin love. I don't think love conquers all. People love each other all the time, they just cant figure out how to turn that love into happiness. When they seem to "move on" so quickly, maybe it's just their way of avoiding the pain. Thinking about what they walked away from could drive them insane, at least if they truly loved us. At least I hope we are more than just brief interludes of little consequence in their lives.
