Mipit Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 (edited) Alright, where to start. I'll be honest, I don't go to forums at all, but I just need more opinions on this issue. I've been dating my boyfriend for over two years now, and we're both young adults. We live with our parents in Northern Illinois since we're both broke students of course c: Currently he is on a student internship in disney world. He left late May and won't be back until January. A few weeks ago my family and I went on our first family vacation. It was a 5 day long cruise. The boat took off from Flordia, where he is of course, and we took a plane to have us arrive two days in advance just in case there was a delay. the hotel we were staying at was only an hour away from where he lived, so we made an arrangement to hang for the day. The plan was that he was going to spend the beginning of the day with my family and I at the beach which was walking distance from our hotel. Then they were going to go back to the hotel while him and I walked to places and the strip mall around the hotel to get some privacy (there were stores eeeeverywhere). Mother approved of it all. The only problem was transit. So a little background information before I go on. Sorry this is so long!!! My parents: Extremely traditional. Ridiculous amount of etiquette and manners. My mom is always drilling me about his flaws. He should pay for everything. His mom: Extremely open and very modern. Allow me to sleepover (behind my parent's back), door is always open, and his mom even wants us to get married and move in. Believe both people pay equal. His flaws: Very closed minded. Whatever he believes, he thinks is right and doesn't listen to what other people's beliefs are such as my mother's. So currently his mom is residing in Georgia, I won't get into that though. She has a Prius so she doesn't care how much she drives. She was going to drop him off at my hotel and then he was going to take a cab home. Now here's where it gets yucky. The only thing that I asked of him was to call up cab ratings to see how much it was going to be. We were going to split the cost, and my mom wouldn't know about that. Of course he puts it off to the last minute. So while they are on their way to my hotel, he texts me and asks if I want to come back to Disney with him and spend the day with him there. then his mom would drop me off at the hotel. My mother hates last minute plans and as do I. I'm a mix of modern and traditional. I know right away my mother is NOT going to go for this plan at all. I've also already been waiting at the hotel alone for 3 hours because we were going to meet my family at the beach. My mom agreed on the plans agreed upon. She is not going to let me leave our family vacation to go hang out with my boyfriend. We get into an argument. He goes on and on saying how that after 2 years of us being together that he deserves the right to see me for a day especially since we wont see each other until maybe December if my mom lets me fly there. Long story short (yeah right), he ended up not coming at all and I was left with an angry mother and me bawling in our hotel room. We fought some more when I came home from my cruise. He still believes that he didn't do a single thing wrong. We haven't spoken a word to each other for almost 2 weeks. My theory is that he sprung those last minute plans on me because the cab ride was too expensive and he needed a transit home. I'm mad at him because he has never respected my mother's beliefs. I tell him he needs to respect her because she is my MOTHER. He says how she needs to give him respect to get respect. WTH? I'm almost mad at him for making things complicated and ruining my vacation. I REALLY want to put this behind us but I am just hurt so badly and things need to change or else things like this are still going to happen. I'm not marrying anyone unless they get along with my family. Thoughts? I'm sorry it was so long. Hopefully it wasn't too dry of a read. Edit: Also, for the very first time, I'm actually weighing the pros and cons and seriously thinking about ending our relationship. He doesn't know this though. Edited July 4, 2011 by Mipit
