Asking out someone while they are working?

So, to start off!

I go to a Starbucks thats merged with a bookstore about two or three times a week. I'm aspiring to be a writer, and my house is a loud mess filled with distractions where I can't get much done. So I go to this place for the peace and coffee.

Over the weeks I've noticed a cute girl working there with an adorable laugh. I'm pretty confident she is either my age or a year or two older, (I'm 18), so we click I suppose while she is taking my order.

Eh, even this one time I think she gave me a free coffee, saying she hit the wrong button or something and quickly handing me my card and a receipt (or maybe I'm just looking to much into it).

So, anyways, we make small talk and joke. But that place is always busy, and I don't want to hold up the line talking to her. And I haven't spotted a time for me to really go up and talk to her or anything.

So, how do you ask out someone while they are working? I've thought about slipping her a goofy note with my number, or try to clumsily ask her out on a date in front of a bunch of people. (I guess I'm confident, but I couldn't stand being rejected in front of a bunch of strangers)

A pretty cashier at the sandwich shop on the ground floor in the building I worked in started making double-takes when she'd see me in there for a sandwich. When I would pay her I got that vibe that there might be something there. So, instead of just asking her out while she was working I asked if they give her a break. She could have said no if she didn't want to get to know me but she said yes. So, I asked if she'd like to get a snack in the coffee shop next door. We dated the next night--hey, actually it was on Fourth of July no less and we went to see Macy's fireworks over NY's East River. Try to find out if she gets a break before you ask if you try my suggestion. This way you'll know if she says no but you know different you can assume she's not interested. Good luck.
