My mother growing up was my bestfriend. All through my teenage years she was less like a mom and more of a close girlfriend. We went to coffee shops and chatted, we shopped, sat on the back deck and smoked cigs and discussed books, music, guys. She was incredible and I loved her to death. I moved away and live in another country now. It's so frustrating/hurtful she won't even answer my phonecalls most of the time. It's been almost 8 years since I got my own place and she has not even seen where I live. It kills me.

I always heard people talking about how when you grew up and left the nest that your parents (particularly mothers - daughters) became like best friends. For me it was backwards, I feel disowned in my late twenties. I miss my mom, and feel as if I actually lost her. She isn't the same woman anymore. It sucks a great deal. :(

That's got to be hard. Perhaps she's missing you as much as you miss her, but this is her way of dealing with the separation? I'd send her a bunch of flowers in your situation, just as a gift. It might not get an instant response, but it's nice to be nice to your mum.

Thank you very much BetterDeal... That's actually a really fabulous idea. She loves flowers. Even if it doesn't get me the desired response, I'm sure it'll make her day.

Exactly! The best way to get a friend is to be one :)
