Lilmisus Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Just curious what y'all (guys and girls) typically wear for the first few dates, and why? Jeans and a t-shirt? Dress and high heels? Tuxedo? Sweats? Nothing? I'm not starting this thread for advice, since I already know what I'm wearing tonight for my date (sundress with flip flops ), but I just got to wondering what others would pick out while I was picking an outfit.
SmileFace Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 (edited) It depends on the date. Where are you going? I dress no different from what I wear day to day. Unless it is a place that calls for a certain attire. I put enough effort into my wadrobe on a daily basis - I have no reason to change it when going on dates. I am comfortable in my clothes; that is what matters. One thing I do every time I go on a date with a new person. I buy a new pair of underwear. lol its silly but I do. tigressA Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Like SmileFace said, it depends on the date. If we're not doing anything strenuous, then I'll wear a dress and some low-heeled sandals or flats. If it's an activity date then it's jeans, a cute top and flats--unless we're going out into the woods.
Elisa89 Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I never wear matching underwear but I do when I'm on a date. That's just stupid because I never ever hop into bed with anyone unless we wre in an exclusive relationship. Other than that I dress the way I do normally. I'll probably wear my favourite shirt or something. Something more dressy when it's a dinner date. But nothing out of the box.
SmileFace Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I never wear matching underwear but I do when I'm on a date. Hehe, me too. It's "cuz I'm a lady" - Sheneneh (from Martin, please tell me someone got the reference) ;-)
Feelin Frisky Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I can rule out sweats, of course the high heels, the tuxedo and "nothing". I'd only wear the jeans and T-shirt if the date were a rock concert or something where you'd kinda look drippy in anything better. Usually it would be something new and shnazzy with a little cologne and a fresh haircut and a definite car wash.

carhill Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 For myself, it's usually smart casual, meaning khakis and a button-down or polo shirt. If the date is more of a 'hang out', like taking one of the old cars out for a cruise with perhaps a stop at a drive-in, more likely levi's and a nice casual (not T) shirt. I generally don't 'dress up' for dates since I don't live anywhere near a big city. An exception might be if I'm taking a date to the theater or symphony. 'Dressed up' out where I live is levi's which haven't seen a saddle, a button-down shirt and 'nice' cowboy boots. For me, that's dress pants, dress shirt and a tie and, in winter, a sport coat. I do admit to a little silk boxer fetish. The ladies don't need to know that. Silk feels good against the skin
Author Lilmisus Posted June 30, 2011 Author Posted June 30, 2011 See, we're just going to the movies and then pizza, nothing fancy. But since today is so freakin' hot out, and since I wanted to dress a little bit better than I typically do (short shorts and tank tops are the norm for me), I decided to just whip out an old sundress that I haven't worn since last summer.

A sundress is a cute date outfit, and perfectly suitable for what you're doing. I like to put a little extra effort in on dates where appropriate, but I usually dress nicely anyway. 'Extra effort' for me is eye makeup and something really form-fitting.
grkBoy Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 It depends on the date. Sometimes I'll wear a nice shirt, sportcoat, jeans, and nice shoes. Seems kind of typical, but I like to look nice and be casual at the same time. Other times it'll just be the nice shirt, jeans, and nice shoes. Unless I'm going to something that requires better attire, I keep it casual, but stylish. After all, I want the girl to feel comfortable with me...not put off by a guy coming on too strong.
EasyHeart Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I usually wear a sundress and flip flops. If it's winter, I'll wear a sundress and Uggs.
Ruby Slippers Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Cute dress (first choice) Cute top and skirt (second choice) Cute top and jeans (third choice, and only for a casual or active date)
sm1tten Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Cute top and jeans, always, but the shoes vary. Never flip flops, though, I hate them.
