Rosebud3 Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I have been with my SO for 2 years now and in just 26 days, I'm visiting him in L.A. I'm really excited, but also nervous and i feel a lot of pressure right now, since it's the first time i'm ever flying, leaving the country, meeting him and his family. I'm scared there will be an awkward moment at first when we see each other, because we'll both be nervous, and it is very different from how we've been communicating obviously for the past 2 years. Did anyone else feel that way, and what did you do to help your nerves?
Whipple Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I've had many friends in that same scenario and they all described it as you did: exciting but nerve-wracking. Lots of them just tried to focus on their daily activities to distract themselves from being nervous, but when they met their SO for the first time, they said that their nervousness just washed away.
cerridwen Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 How exciting, Rosebud! Some suggestions: Firstly, try to remove the flying/leaving the country stuff off your list of stressors. It's a breeze and at times, even super boring. Going through Customs can be a drag but definitely not stressful. Plus, you're also flying at a good time of the year, so no bad weather! Secondly, I think there's a charm, and sweetness, in the awkward moments when you first meet. Savor it. Because those will forever be the First Moments. And you'll think back on them fondly, with a small smile on your lips, thinking of the excitement mixed with nervousness and anticipation of those first few minutes when you come face-to-face. Remember also, he's just as excited as you. And just as nervous! He wants to make a good impression too. So, don't feel like it's all on your shoulders.
Ross MwcFan Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Maybe a hug would help? I think once you're there you probably wont feel as anxious as what you think you will. Plus I agree with cerridwen, that if there are any awkward moments they'll probably be endearing.
crazylove Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 You've just got to enjoy it:) You'll be really nervous and excited all rolled up into one. You'll have butterflies and your heart will thump just before u meet them in person:P But, just grab em, give em a big hug and all will be well:laugh: Have fun!
