proactivedreamer Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 I have been told on a number of occasions that I don't seem approachable. What can I do to be more approachable to men? Should I start approaching them instead? And how should go about this?
USCGAviator Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 In what way did they say your not approachable?
Author proactivedreamer Posted June 29, 2011 Author Posted June 29, 2011 Well, for instance, this guy who is in my class, asked to sit next to me on the train today. We started talking and he revealed that he was afraid to even ask to sit next to me on the train because he feared that I would say no. He proceeded to tell me that I do not seem approachable. I, then, explained that I have been told that several times, and I didn't know why because some guys do approach me. I told him that maybe I need to smile more-I don't know. I am a very friendly person;however, when I am out about on the streets, I may send off a certain vibe but for the most part I think I may appear to be sweet and, perhaps, a bit coy. The sad thing is the guys who often approach me are the "undesirables". For instance, I was approached by a guy, yesterday, who after giving me his number, then asked me if he could see my feet. I am sorry but I really felt that that was very inappropriate. Inappropriate because he clearly had a foot fetish and we all know what that means!!! I don't know maybe I am wrong for that but he was clearly someone I would not go for.
Disillusioned Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Should I start approaching them instead? I don't see why not, unless you come from some cultural background where it's considered inappropriate behavior for a woman. Should I start approaching them instead? And how should go about this? Get interested in guy things. Car customizing, bicycle racing, woodworking, metalworking, model airplane clubs, making things in general. Ham radio is one of the last big frontiers where you can meet zillions of men. I can tell you from 16 years of experience that if you become a radio ham, you'll not only improve your communication skills, but if you join a few ham radio clubs and go to their meetings, you'll find about 85% of the people are men. Most will be old geezers, but some are between 20 and 40. If you don't know of any radio hams in your neighborhood, contact arrl.org for more info on how to become a radio ham. If you're in college, the ARRL can even help you start a club. With that said, check it out, and good luck!
