So i broke up with my ex of a year because he treated me like gum stuck to the bottom of his shoe. This morning at 3am after 1 month no contact he sends me a text saying "hey". I finally replied (wish i hadn't) and the conversation went a little like this

Him: Hey what's up

Me:Hey whats up

Him: Nothing Wyd

Me:Not Much Hbu

Him:Nothing

Me:Cool.....

Like what was the point of him texting me! Now i feel like all those emotions are coming back that i thought i had gotten over..what a complete waste of time. What does this mean? Does it mean he just wanted to see if i would reply? to make a fool out of me?

First, welcome to LS. This site helped me out tremendously and many of us who got out of breakup hell come back often. Too many good people hear with awesome advice!

The reason why your ex is contacting you is known as "dangling carrots"

Your ex has no real intention of wanting to get back together( for now or maybe even ever). What he does want is to ensure that you stay "right where he left you" just in case he wants to go back to someone familiar or is in a new relationship slump.

You have to recognize that you are worth more than being someone's "sometimes buddy"
