Instead of remaining single and having his freedom? What makes a young guy want to marry?

What makes a guy want to get married?

The eventual triumph of his emotions over his brain.

Or the relentless effect of pressure from his partner, much like the sea wearing away a cliff.

respect from a woman.

Zero shadyness.

zero games.

awsome & plentiful sex.

no bitching.

at least that's what gets me to agree to be in a relationship with a woman.

1) She's the right woman. Women still don't understand that guys nowadays will categorize women into "just for fun" or "commitment-worthy". Some guys will enjoy the company, sex, etc...but have no intentions of ever seeing this woman as "worth marrying" while some other girl is seen as "worth it".

I know it's a source of anguish for many women as they can't always tell which bucket they've fallen into, but women need to understand that just because a man is dating them and sleeping with them, it doesn't mean he'll walk the aisle with them.

My suggestion is to find out earlier on where he stands. If he seems evasive about a relationship after a number of weeks, then you might want to walk away, especially if he suddenly tries to rationalize the idea of "no labels" or "why do you need commitment? can't we just have fun?"

2) He's not harboring a disdain about commitment. Some guys have been burned in their past and thus fear giving their heart to any woman. Some guys watch enough programs and see enough out there to think commitment is for suckers. Some simply want to have a sexual partner on call and spend the rest of their time playing video games.

This again comes back to finding out early on where he stands in terms of commitment...and make sure he means YOU. Some guys will say how they want to get married and have a family in life...but you'll find out later he was totally lying or was telling the truth...but he never considered you as that woman he'd marry.

The real trick is simply to find out at a reasonable point in time and have the strength to walk away when you can see he's not into commitment. My GF put on the movie "He's Just Not That Into You" one night and I remember Ben Affleck's character along with Jennifer Anniston's character. I honestly think it was silly this woman hung on for seven years hoping her boyfriend would get over his phobia of marriage and propose. In most real cases, the guy doesn't break down and get over it...the RL simply falls apart.

Don't wait for a guy if you want commitment. Find one who believes in it and sees you as "worth committing to". If you meet one who isn't, then take him out of your dating pool and only date those who would commit. Don't waste your time and energy hoping to "convert" or "change" someone.

I think men will generally commit when (1) the other parts of their life are stable and (2) they find the right woman.

If he tells you that he's "not ready for a commitment right now", it means that he has other things (eg, career) that he needs to focus on.

If he tells you that he's "not looking for commitment", it means he's not interested in committing to YOU. There are some men (and women) who are psychologically damaged and can't form healthy relationships. But the vast majority of men who are labeled by women as "commitment-phobic" have absolutely no problem with commitment -- they just don't want to make a commitment to you because they don't consider you commitment-worthy.

When he meets a woman who can truly enjoy spending his days with who feels will have his back. Men very much want to commit but with the way marriages are these days they want to be careful and make sure she is the right one.

1. Having a major (uncontrollable) crush on a woman that creates deeper longterm feelings for her, i.e. love. (A crush both on her appearance AND personality.)

2. Wanting something meaningful with a woman.

3. Wanting to share your happiness with a woman and vice versa.

I hadn't given that much thought before, but it makes sense. I've been put in the "just for fun basket" before, and it can be hard to tell you're there. That basket doesn't only apply to short flings either - you can be in a more long-term relationship with someone and still actually be in that basket.

As for what makes a man want to commit? I think first he has to want to commit. He has to see some advantage to being married that makes him think 'having this is better than being single'.

yep, you can. that decision on whether or not she's long term material is made often in days, at the very most a month.

there's so many factors...

not the least of which, what her mother is like, because that's probably what she will be like.

LOL...that's a good way of putting it. I'd add ignorance of divorce laws to that list.
