So ladies, when you're dating a guy do you find it sexy when a guy has a specific career? I can think of a few types... like firefighter, doctor, pilot, lawyer, construction worker, hamburger flipper.

Does this mean anything to you and what are the top ones? Obviously a doctor makes a lot of money but that's not what I'm getting at. Take money out of the equation. Does career matter and why?

Being a man here, I don't know what women think... But with that said, I can throw in a bit of insight that may or may not be true.

I think any positions of "power" and "authority" are incredibly attractive in a man. Like you said, doctor is a pretty high-profile job that demands a bit of respect. And that, my friend, is highly desirable. Men are often "hot" by status, not so much anything else.

So pretty much any career that has some sort of aspect of power and authority will make you look good to a woman.

Career only matters to me if he has a stressful career and does not or cannot handle the stress. That was the doom of my marriage, everything was fine until he got a very stressful job and that stress transformed him into a mean, irritable and ugly person.

Posted

As long as he is driven and loves what he does (and at a minimum can support himself) then it doesn't really matter to me. Are certain careers more appealing or "sexier?" I guess, but it's not something I prioritize when dating.

My ex was a professional chef. Awful hours, high stress, and bad pay. But he was knowledgeable and passionate about it (and he could cook for me), so I found it very attractive.

Currently I'm dating a doctor, and find myself admiring the ambition, intelligence, and work ethic it took him to get to where he is. That is also attractive.

I could find something to love about almost (note: almost) any career if the person I care about is dedicated to and passionate about it.

My top career dating choice would be veterinarian

Hey, veterinarian is what I tell random strangers I meet at the bar I do for a living! I'm a large animal vet from Stratford, CT who specializes in horses and large game animals. I am often on the road traveling to ranches down the east coast, so I often stop in DC on the weekends.

Long as he's happy with what he's doing, that's all that matters.

I saw a very attractive male working as a waiter, would I cut him off due to his job? Nope.

Always a good laugh from you lol. I'm a pilot and that's what I tell women. I think being a pilot has a bit of a stigma to it. No worries from me though, I love my job. Just wondering if it means a dang thing in the world of dating.

I agree the other posters, that as long as he's happy doing what he does, his career wouldnt pull much weight with me... But, I will admit, I find traditionally "masculine" careers to be really sexy... Construction, landscaping, firefighting, fisherman, etc.

A job that makes him sweat, dirties his hands up, keeps him in shape, AND pays the bills?

Yum.

That's what i find attractive in women also. If you worked hard for something then I find it admirable no matter what it is.

what possible stigma could being a pilot have?!

propensity for mustache and 'roger roger' 'vector victor' jokes?

I don't think I'd be well matched with a lawyer or doctor because they work so many hours and I want someone who is home more.

I do, however, want a guy with a job on par with mine. I don't want to drastically out earn the man. I also don't want to have significantly more education than my partner.

Apparently my current profession of choice is professor. :p

Eh, commercial pilots who are always traveling tend to have a stigma of being unfaithful womanizers...at least that's what I hear...and then you have fighter pilots who are just narcissistic *******s.

Yeah, you pretty much nailed it. It's a stigma that doesn't apply to ALL just like everything else. Flight attendants also have the same stigma as being loose and sleeping around with the pilots. Which, does happen of course, but not as much as you might think. I would call it something on the lines of folklore.

Unfortunate how that is oftentimes the case...

I really should'nt devulge this information, but I must...

Anway, my friend just started dating a Chiropractor, and he comes across very professional, very gentle, very straight laced.

The first night they were "together" he was just the way he "appeared".

The second night they were "together", his kink came out full force and I can't repeat most of the things my friend told me, but it included him saying "he wanted to stick it in every hole".

So, it just goes to show you, that the person behind the profession does not always match up...:/

Of course it does man. Your job is your status and women are big on status. Just look here on this forum. A woman will always mention the job of the man she is involved with if she perceives him to have a high status job like a lawyer, a doctor, etc. I mean I even remember a woman here bragging about her guy having a 51 inch tv. Lol

My guy has a HUGE TV....oh wait...no he doesn't. He doesn't even own a TV.

I have friends who brag about the brand of clothes or type of car a guy drives. Most of my friends don't care about it so much and just want a nice, sweet man.

My fiance is an economist. It sounds boring to most people, but his work is actually pretty fascinating. I think I'm biased in favor of "scholarly" careers in general though.

C'mon man. You are one of "The few, the proud". I don't say that lightly. It aint easy to make the marines. Give yourself more credit.

:lmao: Adonis DNA and Tiger blood?

To me, there is definitely something attractive about a guy who is a pilot  until he gets out of his uniform...

I like self-assured, decisive guys. I find that many doctors and lawyers have that.

Women who say they just want a nice sweet man are usually women who don't get to choose in the first place.

Let's face it, every woman wants a high status man. Its just that not all of them can get one.

You are not gonna hear a woman overlooking a pilot because she 'loves' the ups driver more. It just doesn't happen.

Women, just like anyone else, want someone who will make them happy. Sometimes we may think it's a pilot or a lawyer or a doctor or whatever, but I've known plenty of people married to men with such occupations who are miserable. Happiness > Status any day of the week, twice on Sundays.

And I assume you've done a poll confirming that "every women wants a high status male"?
