HeartOfAPhoenix Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 ok so after sniffing around here on LS for the past couple of months I realized that I haven't really seen a post about not being able to listen to the radio or any kind of music after a break-up. I thought this post would be kind of fun and might help people cope because I know what it's like driving anywhere and not being able to listen to anything because every song reminds you of that certain someone. my relationship ended about 3 months ago and I didn't listen to any music for about 2 weeks until I realized something. every single artist that I listen to has at least one song about a broken heart, which means... if you are thinking that nobody can possibly know how you are feeling (and that is exactly how I felt) you are wrong. these artists know the pain and have done songs about it. so I think if you have a song that really helped or is helping you with the pain you can kindly post the song name and artist. I'll go first with a few that have really helped me. (Song Name - Artist) You'll Think of Me - Keith Urban Every Lie - My Darkest Days Wasting My Time - Default Life Got In The Way - Sister Hazel Not Meant to Be - Theory of a Deadman if I find any more I'll add to the list, thanks to everyone who contributes to the list

Author HeartOfAPhoenix Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 Silivren, funny you listed 'Every Breath You Take - The Police' fun fact: sting wanted this song to come off as stalking, yet it became one of the most played songs at weddings upon release. more songs that people might be interested in: All For You - Sister Hazel Hemorrhage (in my hands) - Fuel If She Could See Me Now - Jason Aldean Why - Jason Aldean Truth - Jason Aldean Do You Wish It Was Me - Jason Aldean Broken - Seether You and Me - Lifehouse Hanging By a Moment - Lifehouse Better With You - Five Times August <-- good song but doesn't seem like many people know of it. Legacy1 Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Bruno Mars-Today My Life Begins Helps me when I am struggling...
thelovingkind Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 I love the song Everybody Gotta Know by Joan Armatrading - lyrically it captures a lot of feelings I have when I'm stuck in between wistful pensiveness and hope for the future. I also find Happy by Tracy Chapman really soothing, which is bizarre because it is far closer to describing my ex's feelings than my own. I think I like it because it romanticises a situation that was probably far more simpler in real life (him not being that into me), but perhaps the poeticisation of his feelings helps me digest the confusion easier. Doesn't hurt that it's an achingly pretty song Everybody Gotta Know - Joan Armatrading I've done it myself I've done things I never thought I would do We all make mistakes, and I'm no exception Sometimes I think I've told it all so plainly But there's no one there to hear the words I say Sometimes it all sounds so crazy Your version of the story that I know Oh, when your memory fails you Everybody gotta know this feeling Everybody gotta know Everybody gotta know this feeling inside I've been there myself I have been some place I never would go to It's just not my style But persuasion made me open my mind Sometimes I think I know it all so clearly But then someone comes and shows another way Sometimes I think that I am going crazy My character changes for one day Oh, when your habits fail you Everybody gotta know this feeling Everybody gotta know Everybody gotta know this feeling inside Happy - Tracy Chapman Should be happy to be loved, happy to be Unburdened by the thought I could still be lonely I think you're the one, everyone agrees But some can see the face of love And turn away in disbelief Every time we get close, I just run And the wind on my face Last rays of the sun Shine on my skin My heart slowing me down Is all that I can feel All I can feel Should be happy to be loved, happy to be With someone who knows and understands me I think you're the one, everyone agrees But some can touch the hand of love And pull away in disbelief Every time we get close, I just run And the wind on my face Last rays of the sun Shine on my skin My heart slowing me down Is all that I can feel All I can feel Should be happy to be loved, happy to be Possessed by nothing but A heart that's chosen freely I think you're the one, everyone agrees But some can feel the grace of love And walk away in disbelief Every time we get close, I just run And the wind on my face Last rays of the sun Shine on my skin My heart slowing me down Is all that I can feel All I can feel All I can feel Should be happy to be loved Happy to be
Ginger Beer Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 My dad always insists on having the radio on in the house and it drives me nuts. There's always a song that reminds me of her or one she likes.
Net Jedi Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 I came across a bunch of songs on my external harddrive that I thought were lost when my computer crashed. "Only One" by Yellowcard came on and I couldn't help but ball like a baby.
RodG Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 I've been listening to 'Next Girl' by the Black keys...it has helped a lot. A sad song that I've been listening to... 'Dead Hearts' by Stars. I agree with the OP, I couldn't listen to much music at all for about three weeks after.
Geya Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Muse - Feeling good My favourite that I listen to when I'm down : Josh Wilson - Before the morning strong - jordon taylor goodbye - kristina debarge Part of me - Katy Perry
VELVET21 Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 My favorite song right now is "I dont care" by Apocalyptica. I heard it long ago but now i can relate to it and it makes me feel better that some day ill finally be able to say I dont care about him anymore:D:D
lonelynyc Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 For the males (at least the heterosexual ones) I would suggest Tony Toni Tone's "My Ex Girlfriend." The song is a little harsh and leaves much to be desired in the way of subtlety, but it's catchy and makes you want to get up and dance (which is a minor miracle at a time like this). Even though I don't feel the same way about my ex as the lyrics express in the song, sometimes it helps to villainize them--doesn't it?
wilsonx Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Jeremy Camp - Let it Fade Third Day - Revelation --- made me cry the first time I heard it
lonelynyc Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Damn, Tony Toni Tone speak to me when it comes to what I'm experiencing, "What Goes Around Comes Around" is another perfect one. The link to "My Ex Girlfriend" is here

brokenfaith Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Ok. Here's a list of songs I like to listen to when I'm going through a breakup. Note - They are not necessarily breakup songs, but they can apply to them. I have broken them down accoring to the phase of the breakup. Hope they help. We have a lot of fave artists in common I just heard "Don't Speak" today, actually. Right after I drove by a place that my ex and I frequented, ironically. I had a good cry. Then realized I drive a HOT sports car and shouldn't be crying and listening to mopey songs. Cranked up some hard rock instead. haha!! I'd like to add: "Don't Stay" by Linkin Park to the mix.
Stupid Girl Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 I can't believe nobody mentioned The Cure - Disintegration yet.
Author HeartOfAPhoenix Posted July 9, 2011 Author Posted July 9, 2011 Glad to see this thread come back to life . I think I started to really truly move on when I felt like I had nothing to lose. with whatever I did I felt as if it could not get worse. felt like I was abandoned by everyone (which I was wrong) not just my ex. This song really pulled me up to my feet again and made me realise that I can do ANYTHING. Maybe the song touched me differently than others, But if you do take the time to listen to it and it does help, Post whether this song has helped you or not with the song(s) that you want to share. These songs are great, keep em coming if you've got more to share. from the looks they have already helped a few posters already.
