Drop Dead Fred Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 So I told this girl I've been talking to for a few months that I would really love to start dating her, and her response was "Oh yeah I would definitely love to hang out with you more". "Hang out"? Does that mean "just friends" type stuff or what? I don't get it. I didn't get the "just friends" vibe previously; especially since whenever she mentions her last boyfriend she makes sure to emphasize the "EX" part of "ex-boyfriend", and says she really likes my eyes and hair, and such. Any insights?
SoleMate Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 "Hang out" means "spend time with". It's ambiguous as to what you might be doing during this time. However, it's clear she wants to see more of you, so I would take that as a positive.

She works night shifts so we can never go out at night (gets off at 11pm, restraunts are closed), so I suggested going out before work, but she has sleeping problems and can't wake up until around noon, so she said she would really just prefer to synch up our days off to go out. This is where it gets difficult, all there's really to do around here is go out to eat, and neither of us really want to do that too much, because we're both former fatties. She's lost about 70lb's since her last relationship with someone (she said it was because all they ever did was go out to eat), and I've lost about 50 pounds since we've met (desk job, sit around all day with no exercise), so we don't even really know what to do... heh.
SoleMate Posted April 20, 2004 Posted April 20, 2004 Go for a walk, window shop, go to the duck pond, volunteer unloading groceries for the soup kitchen, play board games, outdoor sports, indoor sports like racquetball, see a movie, listen to music, go to a political rally, sip coffee at a cafe while people watching, go to a bookstore and show each other your favorite books... So easy.
Arabess Posted April 20, 2004 Posted April 20, 2004 I know the 'relationship' vocabulary seems to change from time to time. As far as I know 'going out' with someone means they are your girlfriend/boyfriend. 'Hanging out' constitutes a date, but it's easier to say and girls are more comfortable suggesting it that way.
