How long is 'long enough' to start dating again after a break-up?

Now, I know it differs for each person, but what I'm basically asking is how long should someone wait to get over an ex before dating again. Please don't say 'until they're over their ex' :p

How can someone be sure they're actually over them? The reason I ask is because I've read some bits and pieces on here about people being the rebound person in their partner's life and I wouldn't want to do that to another person.

There is really no answer to this. I hate even being back on here but it's a great way to vent. I truly feel that you should get out there ASAP. You are not going to find mr. right right away... but just getting out and dressing up will make you feel better.

Me and my bf of two years broke up about 4 hours ago. He is bipolar and mentally/physically abusive. My daughter hated him. I gave him so many chances. He ran out of chances... therefore- if I get asked out, I will go tonight! I am sick of being sad and let down. Make you happy!

Date away girl! Don't jump beds, but go have dinner with some new people and you are going to compare them to your ex, and miss your ex, but oh well. Only time and fun will heal that!

I agree there is no awnser for it my first ex i walked away with no feeling like the world had been lifted off my shoulders and i was free again as she was domestic.

the second i loved and found it hard which took me a long while to get over as this person would find away of contactin about 8 months.

and the woman im with now well i hope that dont happen although we just had a to do with which brought me back to these boards.

it is when you feel ready to start again and you will know the feeling when you have it because thisperson will not consume your thought and be in your routine as soon as you wake up till the moement you sleep you may have the ocasional though about them but it will pass quickly and that is normal.

I hope this helps.
