My trips to the local grocery are usually uneventful, except for yesterday. I must have been extra attractive with my casual beach attire. First off, I assisted an older woman who asked me to grab her a specific yogurt from the top shelf. "I wait for the tall men to help me.....and a good lookin at that" she said.

Shortly after, a short gorgeous blond caught my eye from the far back aisle that runs the length of the grocery store. We locked eyes and smiled until we passed. Quite obvious she was thinkin the same thing I was  Unfortunately I let her pass without saying a word.

I gathered my overpriced groceries and headed for the checkout lane. And funny thing, I just happened to get in the same checkout lane as her. Even better I was right behind her

I was collecting my thoughts for a good ice breaker when a worker opens the checkout lane next to me and asks me to go to that lane  which I reluctantly did.

I finished my purchase rather quick, and on my way out I looked at her only to see her again staring and smiling at me as I walked out. Without hesitation I dumped my groceries in my truck, grabbed some paper, jotted down my name/number and headed back inside. I approached her still waiting in the checkout lane, and handed her the folded paper and told her "you forgot this"

She just looked at me shocked and said "thank you". Later she called and is really excited to see me this weekend. I felt a little juvenile going for the note pass, but considering the circumstances I think it was well played.

Questions or comments welcome.

Congratulations for achieving something I've yet to experience in 30 years of grocery shopping :)

Hope this weekend goes well!

Nice one! Been in that situation and screwed it up before similar to you did, up until the note thing! I shall have to remember note pad and pen from now on.

Thanks man. It was a first for me. Since my "D" I've only had success in the online world.

Bravo! I think we all need to vicariously savor your victory and learn from it.

How about some Q&A:

When you gave her your number, did you put your name on the slip. Or did you introduce yourself, first?

Also, what was the phone call like? Was she nervous? Did you guys set up a date right away or engage in getting to know you chit chat beforehand?

Give me details.

My intention of this thread is to pass ideas from realistic scenarios to the community. Glad I could assist you smudge.

Also, I think the dating section could use more first encounter success stories.

Why did you even do that? Just stay in the line with the woman you liked.

Nicely Done...

I think going to your car and coming back in is the thing that cinched it...

If you had just hit on her right then and there she might have shut you down but you going out to your car, she got a chance to check you out...

1. I ripped a piece of paper from a small notepad I keep in my truck. I only put my name and number on it. And all I said to her was "you forgot this" smiled and walked away. I enjoyed doing the mystery guy with a secret note

2. she called maybe 4hrs later but said she wanted to call in the parking lot of the store. She nervous but excited at the same time. I'm pretty easy to talk to so conversation flowed easy. We chit chatted about hobbies, prior relationships, kids, stuff like that. She admitted she's shy and was very pleased that I came back in the store.

Come to find out she lives about 5-10 min from me. She mentioned fairly quick that she was available this weekend so went ahead and booked her for sat. I kept the convo going for about 30-40 min before closing it.

I didn't want to make a scene with the workers. Besides, the lady called ME out and I didn't want to make it look weird, like I have a problem with checkout lanes with even numbers. I only go to checkout lanes with odd numbers

You did the right thing. It might have been a little too creepy if you refused to leave the line. Also, you were waited on simultaneously instead of being stuck in the line she just left waiting for your groceries to be checked out. It gave you the opportunity to give her that phone number. ;)

Duuuudddeee, like a boss!

Well played, sir!

Her lane ended up being a slow one because of the person in front of her. She told me she was a little frustrated by that because she wanted to hurry and meet me in the parking lot.

Awwww! Now that's quite an encouraging and flattering thing to hear! VERY cool! :bunny:

And very cool of her to have said it instead of playing stupid games. ;)

Yeah it was a fun conversation. We gave each other a play by play POV starting from what motivated us to go to the store at that specific time and day

Yes sir, well played. Excellent.

Great a story where a guy actually goes out and does something instead of asking for advice and never trying.

Your try was actually pretty half assed but it still worked out great which proves a point trying is better then nothing. The entire story I was praying it wasn’t going to be one of those “do you think she liked me, do you think she would have gone out with me if I had done something?” threads.

Online dating sucks. Supermarkets, parties, the beach etc. etc. is where it is at in the real world. Would have been a lot cooler if you had just flirted and asked her out, but the note worked out so great. Thing is it put a lot of pressure on her even if she liked you to call and that must have been scary. I like to take the pressure away from the girls in the beginning plus its more confident to flirt then ask them out to dinner or what ever. Though your little line “you forgot this” was pretty good.

Good job hope it works out but if it doesn’t keep that fire going and get more women till you find one you click with. I hope this story is an inspiration to all the guys who come on here never even trying anything except maybe internet dating and whining.

Thanks Dust. And you know what? I was thinking about the whole approach thing later. When we walked past each other the first time I pretty much got the green light and was gonna make my move on the second go around which was supposed to be the checkout lane.

That plan got intercepted when I was called out to go to another checkout lane that just opened:mad: From the time I was checking out till I got to my truck I settled on the note pass.

On my way back into the grocery store I started to realize what the hell I was about to do. I quickly turned the "no balls" part of my brain off and approached her with full confidence. I passed the note, uttered a few words, gave her a smile and walked away. There was a curious mystery that was too much for her to ignore.

I even learned something that day. When it comes time to make a move, just MAKE IT! The more you think about it, the more likely your NOT going to take action. Closed mouths don't get fed.

Make a move applies to everything in life, but especially to opportunity. You should have made a move right away but the way it all worked out was perfect and romantic. It is actually a more romantic story that you kept seeing her and then got in line with her, then got called out of the line, then actually left the store but then came back in the store because you couldn’t get her out of your mind and won her over. So in the end it made your story better. It’s just I hear so many stories where the guy makes excuses and then comes on here and says “do you think she might of liked me?” With hind sight being 20/20 I wouldn’t change a thing about the way it all happened for you.
