An old high school friend of mine called me a few weeks ago. We sent out class reunion invitations (25 years!) and he got my phone number off of that. We were always good friends in high school. We had some of the same classes together, lunch, and study hall. Nothing ever happened between us and we were never more than friends.

When he called, he was drunk. He told me he gets drunk a lot. He doesn't think anyone wants to see him or cares about him. He has had the same factory job for 25 years. He is married with two children. He had a rough life. He lost his dad and brother at a young age; his mom ended up in a mental hospital; his sister raised him.

Should I call him to stay in contact and try and convince him to come to the class reunion? Would that be disrespectful to his wife and my partner?

I guess I dont understand the motivation to call him.

Without understanding that, I would say don't call him.

you can't solve any of his problems, why try to?
