Moving into my girlfriend's mother's

And I realized recently how much of a nightmare it will be for me. It's technically a seperate apartment upstairs, but her brother lives right next door, mother and step-father and a woman her mother takes care of live downstairs.

 

It wasn't going to be a big deal until little things started becoming apparent. The woman her mother takes care of is autistic and has a bad habit of coming upstairs into the apartment, which can be fixed with a locked door but it still bothers me. I have an intense issue with privacy and safety wherever I live, and someone entering my place without my permission is a HUGE problem.

 

Worse than that, her brother is bi-polar among other mental illnesses and lives through a door in our living room on the other side. This door is paper thin and doesn't lock, and this is a huge issue with my privacy and safety concerns.

 

Even worse, when he has social anxiety moments or what have you, he plays the BONGOS at full volume. I went to the apartment yesterday and it was so loud I had to leave. He lives there rent free despite having a job, walks around singing, banging bongos and doing other crazy stuff all day, I won't be able to handle it.

 

Further, the entrance to the house is basically in the downstairs house. I don't like this at all. The fact that I'm not even going to want to have sex in our bedroom is also an issue, it's right next to his room!

 

It's so bad to me, all of this, that I basically had a panic attack over it yesterday and my girlfriend started crying. We agreed to move in there because our lease was up at our current place and it was cheap before I realized how bad it actually is.

 

I don't know what to do. Talking to her brother feels messed up since he's lived there long before me, but I'm going to end up snapping and turning my surround sound on to 11 to shut him out if it keeps up.

 

This is awful, I'm scrambling to find another place.

Rather than turn up her surround sound you could have some loud sex with your gf to compete with the bongos?

 

But in all seriousness this is a pretty messed up situation. How were you convinced to move there n the first place? Does your gf want to leave? You cant talk to the brother thats for certain. To be honest, if i were in your boots, i would be rather frustrated at whoever convinced you it was a good idea - it was a catastrophic lack ofjudgement.

 

Move out, tell your gf to take it or leave it.

Try to avoid any fights with the girlfriend in the meantime.

I know what it's like to be in a stressful situation like that.

OMG I'm in the same situation! I had to move into my bf's mom's place, and I hate it!! I like her and all, but she is a complete slob hoarder, has too many cats, and is a bad dog owner. I have been telling my man I want to move out, but he is a little too comfortable, and isn't making any attempts for us to get out! I am about to move out with or without him!
