Okay, so allergies were being a total bitch from hell yesterday. I took one benadryl & maybe 10 or 15 minutes after taking it I feel my heart rate slow down & beat hard. This goes on for 2 1/2 - 3 hours. (nearing the final hour, my hear will pick up pace & slow down again)

It's rare for benadryl to do this to me & has happened before. Of course, I get the expected side-effects as well: drowsiness, wandering around like a confused zombie . But does anyone have a clue as to why this happens? Anyone else get these negative side-effects?

Tachychardia is one potential side-effect of the anticholenergic properties of benadryl. Your doctor or pharmacist can likely explain the process in simple terms.

I haven't used benadryl much, but have noted more arrhythmia (irregular heartbeats) when taking it.

Benadryl is an old, cheap, but effective anti-histamine. Perhaps have your doctor prescribe one of the newer ones and experiment.

If you are taking any other OTC or rx'd meds, discuss possible interactions with your doctor. Your body is a chemistry set. Everything affects it.

Oh, and I can empathize regarding allergies. I developed them after a nasty sinus infection and, never having had them before, wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Hope you find some relief. Pay careful attention, if your allergies are airborne, to the air quality in your home. Dusts and molds are nasty. I'm currently removing the last of the carpeting in the house and have installed a brand new HVAC unit with better filtration and have cleaned all the ductwork of dusts and debris. I hate that zombie feeling. Muddles the mind.

Good luck !
