I've looked it up online and couldn't find anything that puts a specific age on this. If a woman is 30 to 39 years old, unmarried, and childless, is she a spinster?

In my opinion, no.

I think the term spinster is extremely outdated, in general, though. The world has moved on from the concept.

A spinster is an unmarried woman past the common age of marrying. Take the mean age of marrying for a female in your area, add one standard deviation and you've got the minimum age of a spinster.

Spinsters are b*tchy self entitled women in their 30s who wonder why nobody has ever wanted to marry them.

A "spinster" is a "cougar" who isn't getting laid.

Yes. Spinster. But that is an antiquated term and even at that I'm sure no one back in the day called anyone good-looking a spinster. A spinster was more likely the "old maid" who gave up on herself and accepted the place as repressed-looking old frump. ETA: No way does anyone who looks like your avatar gets called a spinster.

Think unmarried, childless and menopausal. Essentially, unwilling or unable to form a human pair bond which results in offspring.

Perhaps it is outdated in this age of clearer choices and independence, and serves no useful purpose as a descriptor.

It's so weird, until the BJD series came out, I thought "Spinster" was a GOOD thing! It just has such a fun ring to it, and sounds like "hipster," that I always thought it was probably something to aspire to. :o
