An ex broke up with me via the email. Do you think he expected a reply? Or he (a coward since the breakup involved the email) would prefer NC so he could say heave a sigh of relief and say "good riddance?"

in what ways do you two communicate? (skype, phone, text, etc.)

 

If email is the primary way you two talk then I see why he did it through email.

 

Regardless it is a cowardly act to do it that way. Let him go and don't even worry about trying to talk to him when it is obvious he has a difficult time talking to you.

Mostly emails because he doesn't like the phone, which was a big contention in the relationship.

 

He's already gone. I'm just suddenly curious as to whether he even wanted/expected a reply from me (since by using the email, it means he was determined to end the relationship).

Don't waste your breathe. He doesn't even like talking on the phone? You need very strong communication to make an LDR work, and even then it's still not easy.

 

Forget him.
