Too many guys will keep trying and trying come hell or high water, even after a woman has basically told them they have no chance or even more importantly, that her character traits make her not worth his time. When I go out to meet people, I don't see it as just meeting women, but as socializing, who knows that the next 400 pound dude you meet and talk to about cigars is suddenly going to have 3 good looking women show up to meet him because he is their boss at work? Stuff happens all the time in coincidental ways when we least expect it.

As far as the bar situation goes, point the guy to the single ladies obviously, and don't mention your status at all.

Well I could just stay inside and not socialize to reduce the risk This is Manhattan - waiting for the walk signal to turn on at the corner of West 4th and 6th Ave is a situation where people get hit on.
