denise_xo Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Looks like the heading could also have read "Confident women finish last". I do recognise the importance of biological impulses, but I think the ways in which we select a life partner is a bit more complex than looking at photos of people. The article says the same: "It is important to remember that this study explored first-impressions of sexual attraction to images of the opposite sex," says Alec Beall, a UBC psychology graduate student and study co-author. "We were not asking participants if they thought these targets would make a good boyfriend or wife -- we wanted their gut reactions on carnal, sexual attraction." He says previous studies have found positive emotional traits and a nice personality to be highly desirable in a relationship partners.
fishtaco Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Looks like the heading could also have read "Confident women finish last". But the packaging is equally as important. A poorly marketed good product is going to sell less than a expertly marketed bad product. Positive personality traits will help the relationship last longer. But positive superficial traits is what get things going in the first place. I would say they are at least equally as important.
Mrlonelyone Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 In the age of online dating ....people are making snap judgements bassed 90% on a photo. So in that world what this study says is really relevant. While in the real world a brooding sad man is not attractive. If they were then the brooding sad 30 and 40 + year old virgins who come here would be getting more sex than Heff. Which they aren't. Ah ... only a week after Satoshi Kanazawa got in such trouble Evo psych strikes again.
