Hello all..aaaaaaa!!!

I feel bad.

I just received a call on Sunday from my temp company, that the company I'm working for decided to end my assignment. On friday.

I got the phone call today Sunday!!! It was so shocking but kind of expected.

I just never fit in with that company of fast paced loud people. I knew they didn't want me.

But they just kept me for 1.3 years and told me they would hire me and it never happened. That's mean!!!!! I hate it.

They were telling me all this time that I was going to be hired so i hadn't searched elsewhere. At least I have a place to live right now but man this sucks!!!!

I gotta start looking for work starting tomorrow. That's just mean. They didn't want to hire me from the beginning and I knew it, but they just dragged me along and made me think they would.

Ok, now i'm back to zero.

What should I do???

First I'm going to sign up for unemployment.

And look for work, but this is difficult. And then since they fired me behind my back( They called the temp instead of me) that means they don't want contact fro me thus that means they are not gonna want to serve as a REFEERENCE. So I have almost no references.

Hey man, getting the boot sucks (happened to me once), but you'll make it. The first thing you gotta do is to keep your head. Don't do anything that will burn any bridges.

Believe it or not, you can actually still get a reference from a place where you've been canned. They may not give you a glowing recommendation, but they're not going to go out of their way to say anything negative about you unless you've really pissed them off (you haven't done that, hopefully). What's likely is that they might just tell future employers the dates you worked there and that they can't really say much else. Granted, not music to a future employer's ears, but not the worst thing.

If it were me, I would do the following:

1. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday. Have a drink. Have a wank. Watch a movie. Whatever. Just accept that sh*t happens and move on.

2. Wake up tomorrow and get go to file unemployment if you can (will hold you for a bit, hopefully).

3. Make finding a new job your full time job.

4. I'm not spamming, but seriously, there's a good book out there called 'What Color Is Your Parachute' A good friend of mine recommended this to me right after I graduated from grad school at the peak of the economic crisis when absolutely nobody was hiring. That, my wife, my family and friends, and some good beer got me through the worst of it.

Thank you Fugu. You're nice..

Man.... I'll hold it together but i kind of wanna cry. And they told me starting next week i was going to start doing different things.

I don't know why these companies do things like such. They did the same thing to another coworker of mine. He was awesome at his job but suddently one day they fired him for no reason.

Anyways, i'll enjoy my sunday. I kinda feel relieved actually. I felt hated there anyways.

Because you worked as a TEMP- they(meaning the business ) are under contract to inform the agency since you are technical hired out thru them. They are not allowed to formally fire you without alerting the agency first. Since this came as no surprise , it will also be no surprise that they are not under obligation to give you a referral, but your agency is responsible for having accurate report on your work habit from the former place of employ. Such as , you had good attendance record, performed tasks, etc.

Finding a permanent career employ would be ideal and I think you will since we are hitting a change in the employ market. I wish you well in finding that which encompasses your great skills!

Sorry bro. I feel you there.

Do you think that maybe you have the wrong attitude? I ask because I wonder why you would have stayed at a "temp" job for over a year? It is sometimes easy for people to settle for the less than they are worth.

Maybe next time, even if you take a temp job for a while, you keep sending resumes out, building a network, and then fire the temp job on your terms, as this may happen again. Just something to think about.

Peace, Boxer

I agree with this post. I think it's possible that perhaps you relaxed a bit too much once you had your job, but as one of the posters pointed out: you're a temp. The truth is, you can't really relax anymore no matter what kind of job you have, but especially if you're a temp. Always be thinking about where you are, and what you want your next step to be. Have an end goal.

Is there a reason you feel 'hated'? If you're like me, maybe you don't do the office bullsh*t small talk. I'm not really into that, either, and maybe there's some distance there, but that doesn't mean that they hate you at all. The fact they kept you there for more than a year means they were probably okay with you; they just might have wanted to make some changes of some kind. Maybe they felt they could save some money by consolidating jobs, and who knows...maybe they'll live to regret that decision.

But whatever...that's all in the rear-view mirror now. Reflect on your experience. What, if anything, went wrong? How could you make it better in your next job? Do you even want to do the same job again? Would your talents be better in another environment? Ask those questions. Don't just walk into another job. People do that, and they end up f*cking themselves out of meaningful careers.
