Maybe women should dress more conservatively

Correction: I did not turn your statement above into anything. I agree that a woman who dresses provocatively should not be surprised if she receives cat calls. What I disagree with, and what focused in on, were DARREN TAYLOR's statements that women DESERVE mistreatment for dressing provocatively, as thinking anyone DESERVES mistreatment based on what they wear is a slippery slope to thinking like a rapist. :)

Reading comprehension people, reading comprehension.

If he had any inclinations towards assaulting women other than stating what he felt they "deserved" I'd be willing to agree with you. But I have seen no evidence of that in this or any other thread. What it sounds like he was saying was that while he personally would not harass a woman due to what she was wearing he would also not feel sorry for her if she was. Now, admonish him for that if you want, but I don't see a slippery slope here.

Exactly. I never justified rape and the fact that SG even suggested it is sickening. She STILL is slandering me in posts and nothing is being done. She's on ignore now, but I want to see what happens to her. For someone that's been here 6 years, I expect a little more class from that individual.

And as far as I am aware, Darren did not ever state that women deserved "mistreatement." That's your formulation. Perhaps he doesn't think a catcall is mistreatment.

That is correct. I made no such statement. Catcalls are not mistreatment. I'm a Dodgers fan and if I go to Angel Stadium, PETCO Park, or AT&T Park in my Loney jersey, I know I'm opening myself up for some comments. An assault is never justified, but I'd be an idiot to put myself in that type of situation and expect nothing to happen.

Now I have another question for you. Why are you wearing a low cut top (revealing your cleavage)? What is your purpose, other than to tease men?

Maybe I'm wearing it because it's more flattering to my figure than a turtleneck or crewneck? Or because I'm out to dinner on a date with my BF who likes the particular top?

I don't dress from strangers, sorry.

Darren, me thinks you protest too much. If there wasn't any truth to my statements, you'd brush them off...but no, you're so offended!!

While I don't agree with reporting posts, certainly none anyone has posted in this thread, I feel for you in that you have lots to learn about this forum and how it works, and are most likely about to learn a hard lesson about LS firsthand.

Hint: One type of genitalia is HEAVILY moderated here, the other not at all, and can say most anything, unless a full-on catfight erupts, and the fastest, whiniest tattler/suck-up usually wins those.

You don't understand, Star. Women with medium/large breasts are required to wear baggy turtlenecks even when it's 85 degrees outside, lest some slob catch a glimpse of omgboobies and lose all control. If you're wearing a tank top in the summer, it must be because you want that 50 year old fat bald guy to drool over you and talk about how nice your tits are while you're waiting for the next train.

It's always hilarious to hear men imply that all men are animals, and it's up to women to prevent men from acting out. Okay, if you say so, American Taliban.

And since it's cool to decide whether to respect someone based on what they wear, from now on I'm going to insult every man over 25 who I see wearing message t-shirts and ripped jeans. If you don't want to be treated like an immature college student, don't dress like one, fellas!

Talk about an over-exaggeration of everything in this thread. But, I admire the sarcasm.

These controversial threads always devolve into an exaggeration competition. Might as well have a little fun with it, eh? ;)

Peel away the exaggerations, and I'm still trying to make a few basic points.

I see plenty of hugely obese women who undoubtedly have huge breasts but you know what? You can't really tell because they dress modestly.

No, you can't tell because you can't tell the difference between their breasts and their armpit fat and stomach rolls.

What you haven't stated is why you DO wear a tank top. It's not because there is no other clothing that would be suitable. It's because you DO want to attract male attention, just not that of 50 year old men. Tough.

This is ridiculous. I wear a tank top in 100 degree weather because it's HOT, NOT because I want ANYONE looking at me or my breasts. Give me a break.

It's always hilarious to hear women simultaneously complain about wearing clothing which does not emphasize their sexuality, but then claiming that they are not trying to highlight their sexuality when they DO wear such clothing.

How on earth does a cotton tank top highlight a woman's sexuality?!

Posted
No, women get to wear whatever they want. Please don't pretend that most women aren't very fashion conscious and aren't perfectly capable of wearing weather appropriate clothing that is non-revealing and non provocative, even if they have "medium to large breasts."

Ever spent a lot of time with a woman who has a large chest? I have a few friends who are busty, and heads turn no matter what they're wearing. The fact that they have large breasts is provocative enough, and short of getting a reduction surgery or wearing a burlap sack, they won't be able to shake off the attention.

I see plenty of hugely obese women who undoubtedly have huge breasts but you know what? You can't really tell because they dress modestly. Perhaps because of their obesity, they're not inclined to show off their bodies in a provocative manner. So they don't. And they don't get hoots and catcalls either. Even in 85 degree weather.

Obese women get catcalls, too.

You've stated why you DON'T wear a tank top--it's not to have 50 year old men drooling on you.

What you haven't stated is why you DO wear a tank top. It's not because there is no other clothing that would be suitable. It's because you DO want to attract male attention, just not that of 50 year old men. Tough. You don't get to pick which of the public gets to look at you in a tank top. It's public space, not private space.

Hahaha, what are you going on about?

I wear tank tops at home and I wear them in the summertime, usually down the shore where 80% of the women (and men!) are wearing less fabric than I am.

I know, it sounds insane - wearing a tank top in 90+ degree weather!

I know I don't get to pick who stares at me in public, but it's not my fault if some d-bag loses his mind over the sight of my shapely shoulders and elegant neck. My world doesn't revolve around men and their attention.

Obviously since you've ruled out poor 25 year old college students and 50 year old slobberers, the target audience for your provocative tank top wearing is probably 30 - 45 year old, well off corporate types who drive a nice car and make a good income.

How come your objection to attention is not directed at ALL males???

Because you DO want attention, as long as it's coming from the "right" type of male.

Oh, totally, I'm absolutely holding out for a super rich investment banker who's 6'4" and built and will buy me a really, like, totally nice car. Just like every woman!

Here's a tip for you, buddy: I actually dress fairly conservatively. No miniskirts. No plunging necklines. I don't own a pair of shorts except for the ones I sleep in and the others that I sometimes wear at the beach. And I still get harassed on occasion by Neanderthals who were dropped on their heads as infants and who think it's okay to make rude remarks to a young woman because she's all alone and trying to concentrate on her work during her commute. My "provocative tank top wearing" is a figment of your imagination, but if you'd like to continue along that vein, I'll gladly humor you. It's slightly more entertaining than mopping the kitchen floor.
