ladyinlimbo Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 A few days ago I sent a letter to a local guy whose profile impressed me. About profile: -only 1 picture; very good looking caucasian (almost too good looking to be true?) -widowed -very well written profile; comes across as very down to earth, grounded, looking for a serious relationship (but not laying it on too thick) -refers to the fact that he's great with kids, kids love him, so much so that his friends tell him he should open a daycare because kids love him so much -indicates in basic profile stats that he has children - but strangely for someone who loves kids so much, doesn't mention his son in profile at all Today I receive a response from him and I have mixed feelings about whether this is likely just a *igeri*n sc*mmer. Things that make me go "hmmmm" are: -refers to me writing HIM back but I was the one who originally wrote him; this was his first response -his english is 'clumsy' in a lot of places - almost like written by someone who's native language isn't english. Odd too as he lists his profession as PhD / Field Engineer -seems to be 'coming on too strong' in his letter in terms of what he's looking for......sounds very idealistic and almost like he's writing "just what a woman would want to hear." -works overseas as a contractor (seems most scammers claim to work overseas) -deceased wife was a model he met in Paris. And he'll tell me more about her (Um, no offense but why would a potential partner necessarily want to know? He seems rather presumptuous here) -mentions his son (but again nothing in write-up of his profile) -the email is allllllllllllllllll about himself -ends it by providing his email address (strangely it's a gmail address and most sc*mmers use yah** but maybe they're now using gma*l?); seems most sc*mmers in my experiences are quick to request communication through email -seems I encountered one sc*mmer on a dating site in the past who spoke about being a widow and how his previous young wife died suddenly (though he wouldn't elaborate) So here's the letter I received: Hello *******, I got your email and i am glad you did write back, I guess you should truly know who i am ,I don't really know how this is to work, but hey! here is an exclusive. If at my age i do not know what and when to say, then what would i be? When a wise man sees he has probably spent about half of his time in life already, he begins to assess his main goals in life. What could be more important than a happy ending? LOL,. A man needs to live his life full of joy and happiness. No matter his achievements, he is reduced to nothing if he has no crown to complete him and that is a woman to call his own. Wife and Best friend. A woman who knows that even while arguing they still need to hold hands. A woman whom i can call a partner in crime, lol A woman whom you can tell anything. How could you think anything can make you happier in life than finding a love that knows no bound. To make you know more about me,.I will break this down to segments and it would be like a case study. MY BACKGROUND I suppose you know my name. lol. I was born to a loving couple, a home, by a Spanish man and a Australia woman. My father was on an international job in Australia where he met my mom. She says there was something about the man that no woman could ever resist, sometimes she says she sees same in me,lol. During my father's global movement,Its just me and mom most of the time.I did most of my studying in the Australia but my father died after a brief illness and we were left alone,But my mom was strong for us and that`s why she remains one of my best woman. I met my late wife in Paris. she was a fashion model. She was a good and lovely woman, We were married for 8 yrs before she passed away 3 yrs ago. Not been easy getting over her,But life has to go on Very good at heart.I would tell you more about her as time goes on. I have a son who is 6 yrs old, he is christian by name. My second half lol. MY JOB I am a global contractor. I do basically rig constructions and renovations. or over water bridges. We have worked at many countries across the globe. The present project here is my last on the field and i shall quit field works and continue my works from my home office while my men do the field ops. I think i really have gotten to this height cos i embraced work for so long trying to get over my wife, that i worked this hard, but i think i now realize i can move on. MY DREAM I have told you how my typical dream day would be like, i just want to spend the rest of my life enjoying the fruit of my labor. I just want a woman who would be my best friend and everything. You know someone whom we would still love each other more as the days pass by, even when we can`t make love anymore and all we could do is play bingo,LOL.I am a total package , i only need someone who understands the value of a good smile. I cant wait to hear back from you. I would like to learn more about you... Hope you have a great day, I will be waiting to hear from you soon Reply to: ************** I'm leaning toward sc*mmer and on that basis, just for sh*ts and giggles I've responded to his email address and asked him some questions about our local area and such. Seems I did that once with a previous sc*mmer and he of course couldn't tell me diddly, when I asked him what area of the city he lived in he gave me some name of an area that didn't even exist. Thanks
Datura Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 http://www.scamwarners.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=13567&p=48633 You're right. Some things are changed around, but it is the same formatting.
start-fresh Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Scam. Hopefully you didn't use your real email address...
TuffCookieX Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 I never understood scammers. What are they trying to get from a dating site? And why is their grammar always so terrible?
Author ladyinlimbo Posted May 20, 2011 Author Posted May 20, 2011 No, just wrote him from a gmail acct, one I use only for Ebay shopping :-) Here is what he wrote in his original profile......which is really what got my attention (not his pic), he came across as so down to earth. The writing is much better, no 'clumsy' parts. I believe in minimizing the stress in my life. There is more important/fun things to enjoy... I would like to meet someone who can do the same. A person who appreciates life, and lives in the here and now with positive aspirations for the future. As Joe Dirt said, "Life's a Garden...Dig it!" Said like a true hillbillie!! Yee haw!! Back to me...I have been told I am laid back and easy going type of man with a great sense of humor who knows how to treat a lady, with love and respect.I enjoys music (especially Country, slow rock, gospel), sports, movies and life. I enjoy a good meal with good conversation. A romantic evening for me would be a quiet meal at a nice restaurant and a easy walk hand in hand. I am passionate, loving, respectful, open minded, honest, man that appreciate a lady of character and integrity. I am looking for someone that has a good sense of humor, likes to laugh and can appreciate good conversation and company. I don't consider myself to be high maintenance but appreciates quality. . I have a good ear and am very empathetic. I am a helper and a problem solver. If we cannot figure it out, than at least we gave it our best. All the women in my life tell me I should open a day care because all their children love me. I have always been good with kids. I am genuine and a goof, and children, especially young (2-3) can read us like a book! I have a tough exterior, but it is what's inside that defines me. I love the outdoors. Im very physical, and it helps to keep me in good shape. My job is very physical and I love that. I am definitely not the type to sit behind a desk.looking for a woman who knows a good man when she sees one.My definition of a good woman is; one who is fun, loves God, judges a man by his character, lives by her morals and loves to have fun. I enjoy life and embrace what it has to offer.I would like to meet someone who enjoys romance, moon light walks, star gazing and good cooking.I am in the process of trying to find a lady who is serious about her man and has the qualities of intelligence, wisdom, compassion, honesty, open minded, and what to have a happy family. I enjoy quite nights at home, or a night out. I love playing sports and getting into leagues. I am excited to catch a cubs game at the bar or better yet go to the game. I like to try new things. I go to the city rarely, but would love to be shown around by someone who goes often. It is great to experience things for the first time especially with someone who is a knowledgeable and passionate guide. You never know what you like until you have tried it! Overall I am just a decent guy looking for a someone to share the future with. The good and the bad, through thick and thin. I'll make you laugh often, and be there for you when you are down and need it the most. If you have read this far then odds are ve attracted your interest. There is plenty more to share and I welcome it with the intentions of finding that special someone... Take care...
Author ladyinlimbo Posted May 20, 2011 Author Posted May 20, 2011 I never understood scammers. What are they trying to get from a dating site? And why is their grammar always so terrible? Well in this case, the guy lists his profession as PhD and describes what he does for a living, all of which are things that wouldn't later cause the guy to ask a woman to send him money or a plane ticket, etc. So in this case i don't get it what a supposedly very successful guy (according to profile) would have to 'gain.' What could he later ask an unsuspecting victim for? Their grammar is so poor, I guess, because English isn't their first language so they're really quite clueless in this regard. You think that they at least start hiring some editors and proofreaders! LOL Seems to me a few years ago there was one I was communicating with; profile well written but his emails were the sh*ts. And couldn't keep his details and story straight if his life depended on him. Claimed his wife and young son had been killed in an auto accident a couple of years prior.....but so many things didn't jive. When I very aggressively called him out on the BS, instead of reacting like you would expect someone who's totally innocent to do, it was like he didn't even get it.......he was still polite, still rambling away.
Author ladyinlimbo Posted May 20, 2011 Author Posted May 20, 2011 (edited) Oops, Datura ----- I read the link you posted. Dang. Word for word. What a toad. hahaha. Well at least I didn't waste too much time. Thanks. ETA: holy, in reading some of the posts there, I am astounded that women report having actually sent hundreds to THOUSANDS of $$ to these dudes. Mind-blowing. I wouldn't send a red nickel to any guy online, there's no way in the world.....and surely not to someone I've never met in real life and had a real in-person relationship with. God, one woman complains she lost $9000 to one of these toads. Another, $20,000. I only wish I had that kind of dough kicking around - for me! LOL Edited May 20, 2011 by ladyinlimbo
Eeyore79 Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 The poor writing tells you quite clearly that English is not the author's first language. No native English speaker would phrase things as they're written in that email.
curlygirl40 Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Scam. For sure. The e-mail he sent you could be sent to anyone. All about himself. No comments that show he read your profile, etc. A friend of mine was scammed (attempted to be scammed since he got no money from her you could say) through Match. Similar story. Widow. Good looking guy. Talked on the phone and texted for a while (2-3 weeks?) with talk of meeting up soon. Then went missing for a day (no contact for a day when they had been texting all day every day for weeks) and when he resurfaced said he was on a business trip with his daughter and the nanny. They were all in a horrible accident. Nanny was killed, daughter was in a coma. Asked her to wire him money since he had no access to his accounts since he was out of the country. Blah, blah, blah. She's very naive. She fell for it all until he asked for money, by then the story was so fishy to her. She should have realized it sooner for sure, I think. Lots of red flags.
