shocked_confused Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Hey peeps, So I hooked up with this guy a couple weeks ago, and we still talk here and there. I just think he's hot, nothing more. Anyway, my coworkers and I were bored the other day just before going home, and we decided to google people we know, and I googled him. I found his Linkedin page and clicked on it, looked at it for maybe 30 seconds and then clicked off thinking nothing of it. I have a Linkedin account but I wasn't signed in. Well, a few hours later I checked out recent updates on BBM and his status said "wow Linkedin". It totally freaked me out because it makes me think that he knows I looked at his profile and is insinuating that I'm stalking him! Does anyone know anything about how Linkedin works and whether people can tell if you've viewed their profile even if you did it while you weren't signed in?? Help meeeee. LOL.
SmileFace Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Yes he logged onto the site and saw that your i.p address was checking out his page. If all you did was view his page; he has no way of knowing.

Unless he has access to the back of the site, which I doubt, he can't get your i.p address from viewing it.
welikeincrowds Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 LinkedIn just announced they were going public and their stock prices more than doubled. Maybe it has something to do with that? If you were logged in, he can see that you viewed his profile. However, it will only show your name if you have enabled the "profile stats" setting. Finally, who gives a ****?

I wasn't logged in though, so maybe he doesn't quite know but has a suspicion that it was me for some reason? LOL I care because I wanna hook up with him again at some point and I don't want him to think I'm a crazy stalker!

LOL I care because I wanna hook up with him again at some point and I don't want him to think I'm a crazy stalker! Coincidentally, while in logging into LinkedIn to look up how it works for you, I saw in my "profile stats" that a girl I hooked up with last year looked me up on there recently I wouldn't worry about it. Even if you were logged in I wouldn't worry about it, but you definitely have nothing to worry about if you weren't. It's either a coincidence and you're paranoid, or someone told him you looked him up on LinkedIn in which case you're doomed forever and you should never talk to him again

Thanks for all your help, i sure hope it was a coincidence.
lovingADove Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 You checked out his LinkedIn profile ... so what? I do google everyone I go out with ... Isn't it part of today's reality?
musemaj11 Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Haha you are just paranoid. I too have stalked some girls on facebook. People have assured me that they can't know if I have checked out their profiles. But I'm still paranoid.
alethean Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 You checked out his LinkedIn profile ... so what? I do google everyone I go out with ... Isn't it part of today's reality? It actually never occurred to me to Google people until my crazy aunt had let slip that she had Googled me.
Author shocked_confused Posted May 20, 2011 Author Posted May 20, 2011 Thanks guys, yeaa I don't normally google people on a regular basis but my curiosity got the best of me! I know everyone says I have nothing to worry about since I wasn't signed in, but I have this sinking feeling that LinkedIn tells people the location/region of where I viewed his profile from. If so, then my area would be a dead giveaway for him...ahhhhhh.
