How long do you usually date before making it official?

I've been seeing someone for three months now. I like him and I think he'd be a good boyfriend but I'm scared to get into a relationship. I know it's such a cliche, but I really am. I'm afraid that the label some how changes the relationship like things getting more serious, feeling tied down, caring way too much, and being hurt. I'm afraid of it failing I guess.

If I do get into this relationship it'd be the second relationship I've ever had.

Also, if you do make it official do you count from the day you started dating or talking? Or do you just count from the day you make it official even though you've been "together" for a few months now.

Time-wise, I would suppose that now is a good time to make it official, but in reality, you should be doing so when you are both ready...and you don't sound like you are yet.

Your second question? I have no idea! I have some friends who count from the day they started talking, and some that counted from the day they made it official...I don't really know what the accepted protocol is in general though.

But at the same time I shouldn't not try just because of fear right?

And yeah I'm one of those people that count from the first day of "talking" because of expressed interest. I guess really I just pick a day where I know it's special if that makes sense. With my ex I picked the day we admitted having feelings for each other.

Seeing each other = dating = relationship with the majority of guys I've been with.

Which makes the answer to your second question, the first day = day 0.

The shortest length of time I've dated was about 3/4 of a date.

Then I "officially" dumped the woman for trying to use the Jedi mind control trick on me.

With most of the guys I have dated, it's been a couple of weeks when they want to go official.

For us at the end of the second date when we kissed. But we liked each other for a bit before.

Haha, that sounds interesting. Details, please.
