I do not think she expected him to be, and has commented as such. But having a hired, household employee, one who interacted, and possibly had her child interact, with their children, just boggles the imagination. Now, her children find out that so-and-so's child is their half sibling, and that the hired help that they too have grown up with (20 years!) was daddy's mistress. I mean, disgusting doesn't even begin to describe this secret, or bringing it INTO THE HOME of your wife and children. That is just beyond the pale! Your childhood memories are forever tainted! Where'd they do it? The pool house? Master bedroom? In the kitchen? While your wife and children slept and played and lived? OMG! That's the end of Arnold's legacy.

silktricks Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 I like Maria Shriver - always have. She is a very classy lady with a lot of spunk. I feel very bad for her and for their children. I also feel bad for Arnold. His indiscretion is costing him his wife, who he obviously loves, his children's respect, he's being creamed in the tabloids. Life isn't going to be pleasant for him for some time. - though as you say, JT - life for an entertainer is a bit different than for most - so maybe he won't suffer too much public humiliation. Private though, will still be a smash unless Maria decides to forgive him. Maybe I missed something in the news - very possible as I'm not an avid news-watcher - but I thought this was supposed to be a fling that resulted in a pregnancy and over a long time ago?? Not the same as a mistress, surely?

All her life she is surrounded by men in her family who cheated-so she has an understanding of the dynamics of cheating, politics and keeping the family together. She made her choices and chose to stay in the marriage. If it worked for her, then good. But Arnold having a bastard child is another story:sick:! Sheesh-can't really say I understand what she saw in Arnold...I mean, yikes-she is a Kennedy for chrissakes! Why she married a body-builder is beyond me!

But as far as we know, he is with them in the weekend. I have a male colleague - early fifties - who just made a female colleague - late thirties - pregnant. No unimportant detail: he is still married, as a matter of fact I met him with his wife one Sunday, hand in hand, all lovey-dovey, talking to me about their upcoming holiday. All while having this affair. Both colleagues are not shy at all about the pregnancy but I wonder all the time if his wife knows, and if the children (one only 9) he has with her know a halfsibling is on the way...

Never said she was to blame. I'm saying that we should remember not to judge the situation without knowing ALL the information. I provided some more, but certainly not all of it. Basically, I'm saying we don't even know that they had a CLOSED relationship.. they very well might have had an open marriage. The issue here is that he HID that he fathered another child until a time that was best for HIM. THAT IS ALL WE KNOW FOR SURE. So when we judge him negatively, judge him negatively on THIS. Do not assume that HIS extra-marital sex requires the scorn that would be due in one of your relationships... that would be applying your own life values onto another, which may not be prudent.

What we know: 1) Their relationship STARTED as open, with him actually being with another women when he and Shriver started (1977) 2) He's LONG been known to have questionable sexual involvement with other women over the years, even as governor (Shriver HAD to have known this) 3) He did HIDE from Shriver that he was the father of this child - he has admitted to hiding it, and came clean only when it suited him (after it could no longer harm his political career). After admitting it, Shriver left him. This is all we (or at least *I*) know for a fact.. so this is what I will judge him on. That is, if it was my place to judge him. Which it isn't.

Married to a Kennedy was a sweet start if you think about it. This scandal 10yrs ago would have not been such a buzz, just one more Hollywood star shagging the housestaff but he sure would have never sat in office. The most disgusting part is that it sounds like his mistress and him basically rode it till the wheels fell off. He told Maria the truth, after he was all done with his political career and she waited till she worked for them for 20yrs so she can retire. How convenient. He may do as he please and Hollywood perhaps may attempt to resurrect his acting career (if that is even possible) but he wont hold so much weight. I highly doubt he would be a hot ticket at the box office, even if this didn't come to light. Remember, the whole franchise is ancient to movie goers now. Would you take a trip to the cinema see "Terminator 4G-wi-fi"? He's better off writing a book about his "demons", admit that he has Tiger Blood, or whatevertheheck else stupidity people want to sell as their image in this time and age. We can only tune in for so long... media feeds us at light speed nowadays, too hard to keep up.

So, they should respect them out of human compassion when their own father/husband would not. Yet he thinks they deserve it from other people.

Thank you Bent, no child regardless of how they were conceived should be considered a "bastard." The sins of the mother and father are their own sins and the child is innocent. In all actuality, the child isn't a bastard either way because he/she did have a father when he/she was born. I feel sorry for Maria too because I think she's a great woman and has done great work. However, I can't judge what happened in her marriage as I wasn't there and what happens behind closed doors would shock people.

I don't think he will suffer much from the public either. Sure there are those that will be outraged, some will feel saddened because Arnold and Maria appeared to have a great marriage, some will not care at all as it is considered Hollywood, and the next hot story will overshadow this one and life moves forward. Rob Lowe has a great career as do many others who have fallen from grace.

There was no apparent need to come clean now - which is what the phrase means to me. And maybe there was a greater motive behind it - but really, again, all we are are voyeurs in their lives. We don't know and never will know the internal workings of anyone elses mind. Maybe he's a 1st class jerk. Maybe he's trying not to be a 1st class jerk. Maybe, maybe, maybe. I guess I'd really rather not think the worst of someone when there isn't any need to. I personally feel bad for all of them. Bad choices that haunt the rest of your life are easy to make.
