This is sort of a follow up to "frustrated with online dating". Wanted to see the #'s in my age search ( I'm a male seeking FM), for both men and women to see what the balance was. To my surpise there were 25% more women than men. So I"m still baffled why these woman wont respond, now you cant say they get "bombarded" with msgs because they are in the majority on this site. I was thinking because I have gotten fairly attractive dates in person, mabye I just look better in person. Does that make sense to anyone? Anyone else feel they look better in person? Or are women that just fing picky?

I find I look much better in person. My photos often don't give me justice. Takes me about 100 photos to find 1 that I like.

I find that *most* people tend to look better in person too. Assuming they don't take photos with crazy angles in attempt to hide flaws.

Online dating is just plain difficult. People are more picky online because they only have pictures and a few lines on a profile as a refrence.

I'm not doubting you, but what makes you think you look better in person?

It's hard for me to find good photo's too, and I always worry, that maybe in real life I look like how I look on my bad photo's.

There's also the fact that I have the opposite problem from what SJC2008 has. I've managed to attract women on dating sites, or even on forums. Yet never does this happen in real life.

A photo only captures how you look during that second it flashes. Its also determined by lighting. Which is why some photos look better then others.

Certain cameras capture the smallest flaws and make them look huge. In reality nobody would see that flaw.

I'm often told that I look better in person too, I smile more in person. In photos I don't have as much emotion.

Your 'bad photos' look pretty good Ross :) So you must look better in person too!

Have you seen my bad photo's?

I have a, what I think is a really ugly one up on Plentyoffish at the moment. Everyone keeps saying I look great in it. But the thing is, is that ever since putting it up, I have recieved no interest from women at all.

In real life people's energy comes across, their smile, their voice, their laugh, their intelligence, their sense of humour, their sexiness - these are not usually captured in a photo, though some of it can....

Sometimes when I make a video of myself, I look ugly in those too.

Yes, I saw your thread about POF. I must mention that its not a great dating site in general, so don't be alarmed by the lack of mail.

Is it a genunie smile, or forced for profile purposes?

Forced.

People said that I looked a lot better in that full smiling pic, than how I looked in the other pics.

Thing is, when I had the other pics up, I got 2 messages from women within about 3 days.

I dunno, I generally don't photograph well (except for a very few photos).

When doing online dating, I have been told that I look better in person (even though I had what I felt were my best photos on there).

I like how I look in videos though - I am always impressed :o Hopefully, they are more accurate. I think it's because I tend to be pretty animated and energetic.

Ross, I don't know if I'm better looking in person or not, was just throwing an idea out there, like I said, had better luck in person, but it's few and far between when I hit on a woman cold, not the easiest thing to do ya know. Rinix, if your pics dont do you justice, you must be astronomically beautiful because I like your pic and you are very attractive. Thats why I got frustrated because all the women I messaged were (not to use ratings) at LEAST a couple of levels below you and more ya know. I'd say average plus if you will. Whats a brother gotta do lol!

I thought so. Not to say you look bad (its not bad), but I figured it wasn't a true smiling moment. And that is why you likely dont like the photo. It's a false representation.

A real smile is what sells! If you feel the other photos gave you more justice, use em' :)

But a real smile pic would be great!

I've taken a few real smile pics (although not full smiling), which I'm really happy with, the one in my avvy is one of them.

Aw thanks for the flattery SJ:love:

I never believed in rates (by the scale anyway), I think you should go after who ever you have interest in. No such thing as leagues to me.

Women are just more picky online. As I mentioned before all we have to look at is photos, so they are generally judged. Most don't take into count that most people do look better in person. Some people are just unphotogenic, so it's not fair. It's a shallow game sometimes.

Don't give up though, there are some diamonds in there!

You should be using the avvy one Ross :)

I agree it looks good, and more natural. :)

Me too. I know what you mean. But honestly, I think if you really want to 'capture' how you really look originally, take a photo of yourself not smiling because it best represents how your facial features are in its own place without 'disturbing' them. Know what's funny? Once I told my friend how I hate taking pics of myself because most of them look bad and my girlfriend who is quite confident of herself said "If you look ugly, then you look ugly. It has nothing to do with the camera or how the shots turn out."

Not really. I have met people from the internet where they gave me good photos (not studio type) and they looked good. But when they turned up in real life, they look SO different. (not better)

I know. I'm just leaving the other pic up because I'm really curious if anyone ever will contact me. If they do, then maybe I do have some hope in real life.

I have some beautiful friends, sometimes I take a photo of them and it looks horrible! They are not as bad as the photo entails.

I have some pics that turn out good, others that make me want to hide under a blanket all day. :lmao:

As for people who look worse in person.. thats the power of angles and lighting!

Photos are deceiving ;)

Hmm don't know. My friends are beautiful, so even their 'bad' pics, I find they still look good.

Photos are deceiving ;)

It sure is. A lot of female friends that I have met in life look sooo ordinary, but when we add each other on Facebook, somehow if they wear make up, they look 100% times better.

Ooooo which gives me an idea of a thread I been meaning to start.
