Lilmisus Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I'm wondering how guys feel about women who tan. And how women feel about men who tan. I'm naturally tan, and I love it for the most part since I have very healthy skin, so the whole pale look is definitely not an option for me. But living at the beach, I see girls who go tanning every single day they can, and their skin starts looking like leather, and very unattractive. But surprisingly, most of these girls are the ones who have all the guys surrounding them, and who get guys jaws to drop. Yet to me..they look just plain ugly. Plus, I worry that they're going to get diagnosed with skin cancer any day now due to all that tanning they do. What's the appeal? And, I have many guy friends who also love tanning at the beach. Who love to work on their muscles and go tanning every now and then to look good for the ladies, but I also don't like that. Personally, what I find so damn sexy about guys is how they don't have to work on their looks like us girls do (besides working out), they're just naturally sexy..no need for makeup/highlights/tanning, anything like that. A guy who tries to enhance himself by going to the tanning bed or lying on the beach is just unappealing to me. Naturally tan guys though..are a different story . Am I alone?
musemaj11 Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Clear soft skin is what attracts me the most to a woman. The color of the skin matters less.
soulm8 Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Am I alone? Nope! I can't help but think they have major insecurities they're compensating for. A healthy glow from some fun in the sun is sexy, but purposely tanning... euww.
Jazzari Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I think a moderate tan is healthy and attractive.
ScreamingTrees Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Being of scandinavian (swedish, finnish, norwegian) descent, I'm definetly fair-skinned.. To be honest, I don't really care and I am DISGUSTED by orange bimbos.. I wonder what women think about fair skinned men, since someone like myself couldn't really help how our skin is and wouldn't want to tan. If they're gonna dye their skin orange, they might as well dye their hair green so they can complete the vegetative transformation.
kiss_andmakeup Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I actually feel quite sexy in my natural pale skin. I've been tan before and felt like I looked weird. As for mens' opinions, my boyfriend likes my pale skin and I've never had trouble getting attention from guys (even when in the company of my bronzed babe friends). Some have even complimented me on it ("you have beautiful skin!"). I guess however you FEEL sexiest is how you look sexiest. So to each their own! Oh...and men who tan...major turn off for me.

I really agree with this! Except...there are some women who I've seen who feel sexiest being completely dolled up. Meaning..spray on (or real) tan from head to toe. Big bleached blond hair with bows in it. Extravagant makeup. Skimpy clothing. They look like clowns to me..but it's their style, and that's how they feel best. Though I know a few girls like this, personally, I saw one lady on What Not to Wear that dressed exactly like them, and it just made me shake my head. To me, if how you feel best is wearing a mask to hide what you truly look like..it's not sexy at all, and just shows insecurity. But that's just me.
BiscuitXOXO Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 In the Oriental Asian culture, pale clear skin is the most desired. Use Google Images and search asian girls; none of them are tanned. But I'm not light-skinned at all. Consider my avatar. My skin type is different and I tan EXTREMELY EASILY. If I stand 20 minutes in the sun, I am immediately a different shade. This is annoying when raised in a culture that considers light skin feminine. Anyways...personally I feel uncomfortable if the guy is lighter than I am. I like tan asian boys who aren't too dark (brown) but are a nice brozen yellow? :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:
Eeyore79 Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 If someone is naturally tanned or brown skinned because of their ethnicity, without ever having to sunbathe, then that's fine. What turns me off is naturally light skinned people who sunbathe to become more tanned - their skin ends up being like leather and they age really badly. So really it's the sun exposure that I object to, not necessarily the colour. Although I can't deny that people who dye themselves orange do look ridiculous!
orangelady Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Depends....pale can be unattractive because the skin just looks......dead. Tan brings out the 'vibrantness' in a person but it shouldn't matter if you can cover it up with good colored clothes. Know what colors suit your skin tone best or rather, brings out the best in your skin tone and hit it.
Woggle Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 As they don't overdo it and start looking like leather. People who do this tend not to age well at all. The worst are those orange looking fake tans.
Ross MwcFan Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I don't like too much of a tan on women, especially if it's orange.
tb24 Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Natural tan looks fine. Orange, fake tan, looks AWFUL. For me, it's an instant turn off... then again I have a thing for pale goth/emo girls so it's probably just not my type
USMCHokie Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Depends....pale can be unattractive because the skin just looks......dead. Tan brings out the 'vibrantness' in a person... Actually, tanned/darker skin hides skin imperfections better than lighter skin, which makes one seem more "vibrant"...?
ScreamingTrees Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Someone (forgot who it was exactly, I think it was a friend's girlfriend) told me there's no correlation between fair skin and looking youthful.. eh? So, wait a minute.. I'm going to look just as old as the men and women who're tanning their skin into leather? Maybe I'm wrong? I always thought that clear light skin would make someone look youthful.. I guess in the winter you could look a little ghostly, but it's a small price to pay for something you can't really change or shouldn't have to..
kiss_andmakeup Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 (edited) Someone (forgot who it was exactly, I think it was a friend's girlfriend) told me there's no correlation between fair skin and looking youthful.. The correlation isn't really between fair skin and youth, it's between protecting your skin (no matter what shade it is) and youth. Fair skinned people are probably the most at risk for obvious sun damage since our skin has little melanin to protect itself. That's why I wear sunscreen every day even if it's chilly or cloudy! From the very few times I've been tan either from the sun or by going the self-tanner route I will say: being tan definitely makes you look leaner, more "toned" or "tight," and covers skin imperfections. To that end, I can see how people get hooked on it. Edited April 27, 2011 by kiss_andmakeup
