Is contact from an ex a sign of more contact to come?

In your opinion,

 

after an ex (the dumper) has contacted you during NC with a breadcrumb message (i.e., I miss you, can we talk, etc), how likely is it that he or she will contact you again? I believe that once a certain pattern of behavior has been introduced to the equation, it is likely that it will repeat itself in the future. I am also fully aware that an ex showering you with breadcrumbs is not a sign of them wanting you back; quite to the contrary, actually, it is just a way for them knowing that you are still around thinking about them (a shot of ego boost, really).

 

What is your take on this? Once an ex contacts you during NC, and you respond, does the probability increase that he or she will contact you in the future? Contrast this to someone who has been in NC without hearing from the dumper at all.

My ex who broke up with me texted me 3 weeks into NC asking how I was doing. I didn't respond and she hasn't tried reaching out since then. Around 3 months NC now. So in my experience, no.
