I don't need to "feel bad" for anyone to make me want to invest in a better, safer society. My heart does not necessarily go out to anyone on a silver platter, conversely that does not mean that I revile and hate those that do harm either.

If we take the "rightness" and "shoulds" out of the equation, I look at investing in other's who's patterns cause suffering as being a better long-term investment for everyone as a whole.

We simply have a fundamental disagreement in how to treat damaged individuals. I see chronic abusers and chronic abuse takers as the same people who should both be punished, though not equally. I also don't believe you should provide treatment for one person without offering the same to another.

I watched my family struggle through drug addiction with my sister. She put my whole family through hell, and even though she is no longer an addict today... she is still a self centered butt hole.

Some people can't be fixed. I believe we should simply provide disincentives for stupid behavior and let those who indulge in it wallow in their own failure.

Working with the homeless taught me the vast gender differences in how we treat failure. I believe this is because we teach everyone that women are valuable and men are only valuable if successful.

I believe that those who intentionally damage themselves or others are not valuable and that we should stop diverting resources to them... instead focusing on good, quality people.

No, I think that you read me wrong, I believe in treatment for both. It would probably actually cause more problems to just treat one side of the equation.

Fair enough, but when someone hikes back up to become a success, the resources should be available to them.

The gender stats are rapidly changing on homelessness. In some areas it is 40% female now. Homelessness will soon be equal opportunity. Yay.....progress.....

So allow the suicidals to fall off the bridge?
