I hate the internet. and I hate texting. Nobody talks on the phone anymore. It's so impersonal.

I have one best friend and I'm reduced to having to talk to her on the internet all the time, because we live across the country from each other. But...she will call me on the phone. I can't remember the last person I used to talk to on the phone was. Whatever happened to sitting on the phone and talking?

Then, I have one guy friend who will talk to me for hours and hours online, but he won't call me. The only difference with him, though, is he'll actually hang out with me in person.

What the fudge is up with this day and age? It's so impersonal. I hate facebook. I hate cell phones. I hate.hate.hate it all.

Dear Jesus: Damn it all to Hell. Please.

Lol. Dear Jesus: please don't. XP

I like texting and online communication. And I actually talk on the phone quite often. But everything is impersonal unless you meet in person.

Hm...what triggered this hate?

Make more friends and be more proactive when it comes to communication. People are lazy, so lead by example.

I think the problem is more than you're only close friend is a long distance one. Maybe you need new friends in your actual area.

Hahahaha. I feel similarly. Technology has been in the hands of people who develop it for no other reason than for them to make the quickest buck. I have devoted my life to designing technology NOT for that reason but for the highest purposes I can imagine. That process of figuring out what I want to do and why has given me quite a view of what is wrong and how people are written off as "causalities" of technology rather than benefactors of it. This still doesn't give me any greater chance to change anyone else. I can only change myself and hope others will follow my lead--assuming of course I succeed with at least one of my innovative brain children. I totally feel the vibe though and it keeps coming through over and over again that there is so much we are doing wrong that we need to get right.

I agree - partly.

Texting is a terrible form of communication. It's fine to say,

"I'll be ten minutes late"

"Hope all goes well today"

Things like that, but it sucks more than a giant vacuum cleaner for personal communications. One girl I dated a few times even told me she wasn't interested in dating me anymore by text - I've kept that text to remind myself how not to ever treat someone.

Having said that, some new forms of communication are great. What about Skype for example, like the phone but with pictures too.

You sure make a lot of topics.

Yeah, I tend to get frustrated by this over-reliance on technology too. :(

DreamerGirl, appreciate the fact that at least they are available. Otherwise no-one would be communicating with you at all.

Yep, I think that's pretty much why she's so frustrated, because she doesn't have/can't get any (new) friends, hence the mutiple threads and contrasting topics.

Both good tips.

Skype is pretty cool, I have to say. :)
