How do you know he is truly in love vs just going through the motions?

I am not being insecure or paranoid.

 

My ex bf admitted (WAY after the break up) that he never felt anything for me past physical attraction. That he knew from the beginning that there is no future and that his emotions weren't engaged at any point. That even though he was very much looking for a serious relationship, he knew that I wasn't "it" (this part hurt the most).

 

The problem was, I had no way of really knowing this. When we were together (even though it was only 5 weeks) he acted like he was crazy about me in every way. From daily phone calls, to asking me to be in an exclusive R after 3 dates, to constantly holding my hand, hugging me, kissing my hair etc. To taking me out and paying for everything and wanting to spend all his free time with me. He even told me that he is "falling in love with me". He plastered pictures of us all over his FB wall.

 

My current bf does ALL those things too. It's been 6 weeks now but I am skeptical. My brother told me when he saw us together how he cares about me because he is constantly holding me, kissing my fingers etc etc. Well, EX BF DID THAT TOO. It means nothing.

 

How can I truly tell? Is there even a way?
