57j2olds Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Ok, this is my first time attempting to seek advice on any forum as I am 42 and thought I had all my ducks in a row regarding relationships. I have been dating the same woman who is also my age for the past 1.5 years. We both have kids from a previous marriage. We both love each other tremendously. Over the past month or two on several occasions when she and I go out to she tends to flirt heavily when she starts to drink. I spoke to her about a specific incident that occurred last week and told her it really hurt my feelings and she said she was very sorry. Over the past few weeks I noticed quite a few posts on a very popular social networking site between her and a co-worker (who she mentions from time to time). These posts, in my opinion, are sexually related. Simple texts referring to ”down there” and misc. texts about sex. One text said..."this conversations is going south"..My girlfriend said.."It's warm in the south"..This is very confusing to me as we have such a great relationship. Why does this bother me so much? Is this normal behavior on her part? The guy is single too.
oldguy Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 You shouldn't be snooping her texts. And yes, from what you posted I would think the two of you need to talk. Unfortunately you can't go to her and say, "I've been snooping your texts and...". According to what you've included in your post you either have a legitimate concern or the post is very one sided. Flirting alone is almost always more of a sign of insecurity by the way. Maybe you need to start dating her instead of "going out" for 1.5 year. I've been dating my wife for, well many years.
Cee Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I'm guessing that she's writing this stuff on Facebook and you are reading her wall. This doesn't sound normal to me. It sounds like exhibitionist behavior and a blurring of boundaries. I don't think it's necessarily a prelude of cheating, but for some reason, she is seeking attention. I don't have any advice though. I'm only making observations. Good luck.
