The chicken and the egg are laying on the bed... the chicken lights up a ciggarette and the egg rolls over and says " guess that answers the question."

it was some other type of bird that eventually evolved to what we all know...the chicken.

Either Dr Freeman or the Metro journalist is taking some liberties.

 

Are chickens, because of the presence of the OC-17 protein, the only animals capable of laying eggs?

 

In any case, the pre-chicken ancestor would have most likely laid eggs as well -- and in fact, the first "chicken" egg.
