I'm looking to expand my friend network... Would OKcupid be a good place to do this? I'm not looking to date but I heard it's a good place to find friends.

That's a dating site, so I think it's strange to go on there looking for new friends. Instead, why not pick up a new hobby or sport and meet new people that way? It's spring, so get out there!

Supposedly, you can use it to make new friends, but it doesn't work that way. The people who contact you are usually only people who are interested in you sexually. My friend tried to do the same thing and instead wound up with a new boyfriend and no new friends.

That seemed to work for my girlfriend... She found a movie buddy through okCupid although I doubt his motives sometimes.

This thread is now about my girls movie buddy. I posted about him a couple of times. She admited to me last night that she met him on OKCupid around the same time we met each other.

Now here is a question I pose to you LS... Why would a guy who is in a commited relationship of 6 years have an account on OkCupid and still be active on it, especially since people here are saying it's not good to find friends on.

I was starting to be OK with him until I heard she met him from OKCUPID.

People don't often go to bars to make friends, but that's not to say that it doesn't happen. It's not like she met him on adultfriendfinder...

Well... this goes back to the thread about why people in a commited relationship keep their accounts ok OKCupid open. He's been going out with his girlfriend for 6 years yet he met my girl around 7 months ago. Something just seems "off".

Well, besides where they met, do you have ant other reason to believe the relationship between them might be more than just friendship?

OK Cupid is known for dating, or making friends.

And it's not like people don't post on the PoF forums when they're not looking for someone!

I believe that guy might have ulterior motives. I feel fine around her other guyfriends. Hell, I don't even mind if she goes to bars alone with her guy friends. However there is something about this guy just doesn't sit right with me.

Well, then you are probably right. We can usually sense it when someone's trying to date the person we are with.

But your girlfriend might not view him that way. It might just be coming from him.

Posting in forums and updating your profile are different things...

Oh I know she doesn't but sometimes this guy gets in the way of our relationship. She is a smart girl but she is naive when it comes to male interest. I was flirting with her, blatently might I add and she was suprised when I ended up saying I liked her.

He also wants to take her wine tasting... She declined, twice but only because it was too spendy.

So she won the jackpot and is now complaining about it?

Nobody thinks this is weird? Do people really just go to OKCUPID for friends? If so I guess I might need to check it out.

She never complained actually.

I am just stating why she joined the forum originally (she just wanted friends) and what the result was (she wound up cheating on her current boyfriend and leaving him for another guy.) And making my point that that place isn't a good place to make friends.

You just added the idea that she complained. I never said that.

Thanks for adding to the story. That's the kind of person I wouldn't keep as a friend.

I've seen loads of profiles that say that is what they are looking for (including ones that make it very clear that they are already in a romantic relationship and explicitly not looking for that) so I guess so.

I hate those people so much.

No. Most people on there are looking for casual sex or bfs.

Me too.

BA, are you on OKC?

Girl, the only guy who wrote me back was this guy who said he already has his eye on this girl in real life but she has a bf and he needed to get her off his mind so that's why he is on OKC. So I asked him "don't you think you shouldn't be on a dating site if you are already interested in someone else in real life? Why use another person to forget who you can't have?"

He didn't reply me anymore.
