I'm not sure if this has come up in a thread before, I wouldnt be surprised if it had.

I've been reading quite a bit about the Myers-Briggs 16 personality types and applying it to my current and past romantic encounters, it all seems to be fitting together.

I'm genuinely surprised at how well it described my situation, my personality vs the girl I'm currently trying it on with (me ESFJ, her ISFP (yes i asked her to pick one herself)), it describes our interactions helps me understand her a bit better and gives me a better idea of how to plan my 'moves'.

Being a new science, little is still known for sure about psychology, and its mostly just theories, but this theory seems to be quite well respected, although there have been some criticisms of its validity. It does ignore some of aspects such as culture, education, past trauma, mental illness etc, but in its own simplified way I think it can be very useful.

Heres the page I've mostly been looking at: http://www.personalitypage.com/high-level.html it gives you a general idea of the personality types and seems to be a good and easy way to select which one you think you are. It also goes into detail about the relationships between personality types and tells you which are the most compatible and which are likely to result in the happiest relationships.

Threads on this forum seem to draw a whole range of conflicting advice from different types of people who all think in totally different ways. When getting advice about a romantic dillemma, I'd give more credibility to an advice-giver who was of the same personality type (& way of thinking) as my partner or romantic interest etc. Would you?

I'd like to get peoples opinion of how valid and useful they think this is.

What does everyone think? Could this be useful for you? Could this be useful for the forum in general?

There have been quite a few threads here focusing on the 16 personality types. I agree that you would probably get some very good insights about a particular person from others who have the same personality type....though two people of a similar temperament might have vastly different experiences which have shaped the way they perceive things and behave.

Also, you're not necessarily going to get the best advice on dealing with that person from the person who shares their personality type. They might lack objectivity and be a bit too prone to giving you advice that's geared towards the interests of the person they relate to, at the expense of your interests. It's good to get a range of perspectives.

Yeah, but thats also true for advice that doesnt take in to account personality types.

I also wonder if online dating sites could help match-make using this?
