I think there are times where keeping communication with an ex is ok...

I just want to say that just because a relationship gets put on hold or possibly even ends, doesn't mean there isn't hope for reconciliation. I don't think anyone should accept less than what they deserve but some people here insist that all forms of communication must stop and that's the only way to go. Yes that may be the right thing if your emotions are being toyed with or if you just want to be able to heal.

What I'm saying is there are occasions where I think it is ok to keep the door open to communication with an ex. There are times where shutting the door isn't always the answer.

My boyfriend and I are trying again. Being away from him was very painful so I know how it feels.

This is the case rarely, if ever, if you are really trying to move on, re-center, take back your control of your life, etc. And this is why some emphasize that the motivation behind NC is as important as NC itself. NC is not supposed to be a reconciliation tool. It's a tool for those who are trying to get on with their lives after a breakup.

GL with your situation, OP.

I guess it depends on situation.

I also believe some doors are better left shut than to be open.

I'm happy to hear you and your bf are trying again :)

Great news!! remember you were going to have to move out at month's end.

I've read your posts from the start and you sound like you truly love him.

I agree with what you say...in your situation NC was not the right way to go and you've proved that reconciliation can happen, well done, I'm pleased for you and good luck!

I see what you're getting at and I do agree to some degree. Communication must stop, if you're trying to get over the person. I have no doubt about that. But communication doesn't have to be stopped forever. Maybe when they are over each other and ready to be friends communication can start again.

Or even if they wanted the relationship to have a second chance, NC can be done to the point where the person attempting the reconciliation will have a clearer head. So that if it doesn't work or the other person doesn't want it to happen, they can go right back to working on the healing process skipping the whole begging/pleading thing and completely breaking down.

NC is for when there is no hope. I, the dumpee, made two post-break up gestures that were ignored by my dumper. In order to retain my dignity and self-respect and practice self-love, I had no choice but to do NC.
