I wonder if women are communicating this way because men do the same?

I'm noticing a trend right now in 2011 and it seems as though women only like to communicate three ways.

IM

Text

Face to Face

So bascally the phone conversation is now becoming something that most women prefer not to do anymore. I tried to get women to talk on the phone while texting or on IM and it was always some kind of excuse not to go to the phone. So I'm thinking that men must do the same thing which has made this the NEW WAY of getting to know someone in 2011?

I think it's because they don't want to give undivided attention to one thing/person for too long. If they are talking on the phone they can't be texting all their friends at the same time.

I think its both men and women that have their attention divided into many different things/people at once. I find it damn annoying.

I'm a guy and I must admit I don't feel that comfortable talking on the phone, unless it's non socialable.

I much prefer text, IM or face to face.

Why oes it have to be non-sociable for you to talk on the phone?

I don't know why it matters that much, I don't think I'd care so much HOW somebody wanted to communicate with me just so they wanted to communicate with me. I think people read it their own ways and maybe read in slights where there may not be any. Just my opinion.

Well one girl last month wanted to get toknow me through text or face to face which is strange because I was unable to get a feel for her over text and how often can I see someone face to face if we are not living together?

How do you get to know somebody with text. You don't hear their voice or see their face? There is nothing except typed words.

That's why it was no other dates

Personally, I can't stand talking on the phone for too long.

I much prefer face to face and then text.

Talking on the phone is nowhere near as immersive as face-to-face. And while on the phone I can't really focus on anything else. I end up walking laps in my apartment waiting for the conversation to end.

At least with text I can send a message and put the phone down.

As far as I'm concerned, I only text for small talk, and even then conversations don't last more than 5 minutes. A phone call is more personal and requires more attention.

If I text, it's with friends and requires less formalities other than a "hey, what's up?"

You do realize people are more self-indulgent than they used to be. It's a " Me, me,me" generation. If people can't give you the common courtesy to call, find someone who is more traditional on this front. If they're extinct, you might as well just join the masses and stick to informal texting and iming.

I've met very few women, whether as friends or romantic interests, who shy away from talking on the phone. Many have no problem completely discharging their or my cell phone battery.

Since I have no problem multi-tasking, I'll simply put in my earbud and continue on with what I'm doing.

My communication preferences rank:

1. In person

2. Phone

3. E-mail/written letter

I only use texts for 'traffic, 15 minutes late' type communications.
