kristinpea1979 Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Hey guys - So I signed onto Facebook to see many "is engaged" April Fools jokes, however when I saw one from the guy I've been with for 2.5 months, I was a bit disturbed. It even links to the girl he's "engaged" to. I texted him and said "engaged? I knew it!" as a joke, but he seems to think it's hilarious and says "I know, I'm going to get people so good." Now some people clearly don't believe him, but he's getting congratulated left and right. I asked who the girl was and he said a good friend. So I said "well it looks like people believe you, good job," to which he replied "haha." Should I be bothered by this?! Why didn't he talk to me and make it a joke with me? His friends know me and know we're dating so... I might be overreacting, so I need some input here. It is just his personality to be silly, but at the same time I think it's a bit insensitive. I don't know how to act with him about this. I can't help but feel hurt and sort of mad right now...
Kelemort Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Maybe he chose to do it because there's an element of absurdity to it - because for anyone to propose to, why wouldn't he propose to you? And that's the other thing - if he had sent it to you, what if you took it seriously (despite it being 'April Fool's)? I agree he should've tipped you off and this was a joke better enacted between him and another male friend, or between the two of you. It's cause for some concern, but not outright jealousy I'd say. Just ask him why you weren't in on the joke.
