Online dating is like crack, apparently.

A while back I deleted my OkCupid profile, and started a thread here about it to brag/celebrate. I thought that was that.

But after a few days without OkCupid, I started checking the old Plentyoffish account. Something I swore I'd never do again, because that place is, let's be honest, pretty trashy, even compared to OkCupid.

I'm not sure there's a way to "delete" yourself from POF. So, to remove that temptation, I deleted all the text and pictures from my profile, then closed my eyes and changed my password to a string of random characters on the keyboard. Done, and done.

Not so fast! There's still <shudder> Craigslist! A cesspool of dating humanity if ever one existed. And I find myself wallowing in it.

So, the draw of online dating is apparently pretty powerful! Even though I know intellectually that online dating is (for me) a waste of time, something deep inside me won't let me give up! I feel like Michael Corleone: "Every time I try to get out, they pull me back in!"

By attempting to forcibly cut myself off from it, I just sank deeper into the mire. Weird. At this point, I might as well go sign up on Match!

Yeah I deleted all my accounts after being tired of getting hoodwinked into dates with the morbidly obese. You can delete your POF, it's just a bit harder. And Craigslist...yeah get on Match before you get AIDS or are skinned alive by a serial murderer.

I've never paid for internet dating myself, I figure that is more for the 25 and up crowd so I doubt there would be many decent candidates on there.

I understand. It's so simple to be at home and "flirt" on a computer. It can be a distraction in your every day life. Unfortunately, it takes up time that could be spent out in the sunshine.

Try to get out there and meet people in real life. Now that I've gone back to real world dating, I have absolutely no desire to do OKC or PoF ever again.

I am on the verge of doing just that, I just need to make the commitment. It'll be easier to get motivated as the weather gets warmer, I'm sure.

Haha, it is. I use to read Craigslist personals as entertainment.

Ugh, men on dating websites are mostly just horny men looking for a cheap thrill, it's difficult enough fending off the genuine LTR from the hookup seekers. I would rather " troll" a bar than someone's profile.

Besides New York is not short of single men, you just need to have a good filter up.

Lol I thought I was the only one. No homo but the "Men Looking For Women" section is pure laughs. Nothing but pictures of shirtless men and genitals.

Craigslist is dirtier than a sewer rat living in Snooky's love hole.

That's pretty dirty.

The women seeking men ads are roughly 95% fake. I don't mean the woman is messing with you and has no intention of meeting you, I mean there is no woman. Just a computer program designed to increase traffic to someone's website. A very, very few of them are actually sincere and realistic sounding! I've been fooled a few times.

The thing is, I know this already! I've known it for years! And yet I'm still bored enough and have so few opportunities that I need craigslist to trick my brain into thinking we're doing something to meet women? That's insane! I disgust myself! :(

So uhh you've given up on any online dating? Or just the free sites? My male friend IRL had some success finding girls on OKcupid. I'm sure most of the time it's frustrating pointlessness but nevertheless, there have to be some successes. I'm also under the impression that the pay dating sites are much better quality. Am I wrong about any of the above?
