Mangomonkey Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 This is something i hear every now and then. That women wanna be just like a man. Have all of his benefits while keeping all of their benefits as a women. Now in all honesty i sorta kinda see where people are coming from but then again I sorta kinda don't. Its fun being a man. Probably more fun than a woman but i can say that because I'm a man. Maybe i answered my own question. But regardless why are women trying to become more like men? How? Why? Will it always be that way? Is it about sex? Money? Power? Someone enlighten me.
Thedude22 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Well there is encouragement to gain equal rights as men, thus acting more like men is part of the territory. I'm all for it, however my issue is the "have our cake and eat it too" attitudes of faux feminists. It's the idea where a woman has equal salary to a man, yet also expects that man to support her. That's not how things work. You either take one or the other. It makes dating confusing because women many times supposedly want to be treated as equals but get turned off when you actually do. For example I expect a woman to pay for every other date we go on, not force me to have to ask her out every single time, and open her own doors and pull out her own seat. I respect women and expect them to be able to pull their own weight in a relationship, yet some cling to "traditions" as an excuse to be lazy.
sydneysider1978 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Mangomonkey... do you actually know many women? Male / female, we are basically all human, we have the same wants, needs, desires. Society has developed gender roles and it's only now that it's becoming more acceptable to break outside these. If you're a naturally assertive women, why wouldn't you act on this? If you are a guy who loves small children and hates the corporate world, which wouldn't you work in childcare? I wouldn't say women want to be men, they just want to be free to be themselves and ignore old fashioned stereo types.
mr.dream merchant Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 It's like they want all the benefits of being a male but want to not be held accountable for the actions. Example? Women hate when men look down on women who sleep around. They cry "BUT IT'S OKAY FOR GUYS TO DO IT!" Who cares? Men aren't going to be romantically interested in another man unless he's a homosexual. So why would it be wrong or right to him? He doesn't care either way because he's not interested. Women look down on men who sleep around. So what's the big issue?
irc333 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Yeah, there used to be a time where women actually DESPISED sports, complaining of being a football/baseball widow, while the husband would sit with his friends in the living room with his buddies watching the sports. Now, women are liking sports. Same with other interests in hobbies. This is something i hear every now and then. That women wanna be just like a man. Have all of his benefits while keeping all of their benefits as a women. Now in all honesty i sorta kinda see where people are coming from but then again I sorta kinda don't. Its fun being a man. Author Mangomonkey Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 I actually do know plenty women. Majority of em like being a woman from what i see. And i guess i shoulda revised my question a bit. I mean more in the dating/relationship world than all around. As for the equality in equal pay and things related yea i understand all that. I know about the difficulties they face and the glass ceiling. I was aiming for what one of the posters said. How some women want to get things paid for while making the same as the man. Basically being pampered. This probably can be applied to sex to but honestly that would only be something i hear other posters say in other threads so I will leave that alone. The thing is i haven't met alot of women who are actually like this. But in loveshack i hear/read it alot. A whole buncha stuff about feminist power and whatever. I figured its something you all could see/relate to since we all basically read the same stuff.

Well it seems to me this site generally attracts more intelligent minded females than others. In reality I'd say around 80% of the people you will meet in life are ignorant. It's an elitist view but is statistically accurate. Thus, expect 80% of the women you meet to be ignorant and be unable to grasp any sort of feminist concept in it's entirety. Essentially what you'll find is women who don't care about any of that junk and just want to be treated like pieces of meat and/or spoiled princesses who want equally ignorant men who act like neanderthals. Sometimes they will grasp feminist concepts but will just spout back things they read in cosmo, not any fully-formed philosophical thought.
zengirl Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Women tend to be individuals, act like individuals, and want different things as individuals. Discussions like these go nowhere on this site, particularly when started so vaguely. And your title is very flawed. Unless a woman is shooting up testosterone and attaching a penis via surgery, she's not trying to be like a man.
musemaj11 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 (edited) America is a heaven for smart women who are aware of all the advantages available to them. This is the place where a woman can take a 'man's job' and still make him pay for her expenses. This degree of absolute advantage cannot be found anywhere else on this planet. Even I am getting a bit sick of the misogyny on here by some guys and you all know I am not Mr Feminist I do run into some women who still expect to be taken care of like little girls but it is not as many as some men think.
WorldIsYours Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Now, women are liking sports. Most of those women who say that bull**** be lying. They say that crap to try and fit in with the men they hang around or screw with. Yapping about how they like a certain team and they don't even know what the hell they're saying. Can't even name who's on the team.
Disillusioned Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 The ones I think the OP is talking about are those who want to have their cake and eat it too... or more accurately, they're after authority without responsibility. The flipside is, there's a ratchet effect... the harder these women pursue "success", they're pushing happiness further and further away from themselves. Yet it's hard to have to bite the bullet and give up the luxuries and the right to control others. You'd think such women would've learned that lesson from the men who "have everything" except popularity... because you can't demand friendship.
SteveC80 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Women want the power of Men privliges of women and the responsiblilites of neither
Cee Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I have wondered what it's like to have sex like a man. I try to imagine it, but I can't. I know there are devices to simulate sex as a man, but it's can't replicate sensation. I think it's pretty natural to be curious about how the other half lives. Gender is socially constructed so basically we are the same. However, there are some biological differences. And I wonder what it is like for men to have these strong sexual drives, bodies that are more muscular, etc. Maybe that curiosity is what drives my desire for men so much.
Author Mangomonkey Posted March 29, 2011 Author Posted March 29, 2011 Cee i like your thinking. Outside the box I truly believe that women are able to enjoy sex more than men, but easier for men to get off. Think about it. I still like doing what i do. I really can't imagine it any other way.
Titania22 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I for one definately don't want to be like a man. I have always felt lucky to be female. My daughter on the other hand, felt like she must have drawn the short strow to end up female. But I think that is more about looking at society and thinking that men (especially white men) get a better deal. I don't know that it has anything to do with how she feels in her skin.

To be honest, one of my more interesting daydreams is 'what would happen if everyone switched genders for 24 hours.' I strongly suspect the entire world would grind to a halt as everyone rushed home for a nooner...

I know it's futile to argue with you, but just because I can't name who's on the team doesn't mean I can't enjoy the thrill of competition and the strategy of a sport. Why wouldn't it be cool if a girl took interest in something you liked?
Lilmisus Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I for one, absolutely love being a woman, for so many different reasons. If I had the opportunity to be a man, even for just 24 hours, I don't think I'd take it because being a girl is just..great. I would never, ever go for another girl, since I love guys and what they have to offer way too much, but I love who I am, and I wouldn't ever say that I was trying to be like a man, even just through actions. And I'm not feminist by any means, but I prefer equal relationships. I love to make the guy feel special by taking him out on special dates, buying him little things, spoiling him, and doing little things to surprise him. Just as I love it to have him do it for me, since I know how great it makes me feel and I want him to feel equally as great. And though I never split the bill for any date, I have no problem doing it fifty/fifty for the spending. Like...a few dates on him, a few on me, and so on. Whoever could afford it and whoever chose the place or the date would pay. But the women that you are talking about, I think that there are relatively few who really feel that way. I mean with the whole "have your cake and eat it too" type thinking. Most women I know who want to work, and be respected as well as a man is, feel more independent and don't need to rely on a guy to pay for everything for her. But girls are girls at the end of the day, and we love to be made feel special, and love to know that a guy (no matter how much he or we make) deems us special enough to spend their money on us, and treat us like a queen. Most girls though who don't have the desire to work hard and be so respected, just want to be pampered though and seem to just shoot for finding a handsome, rich, doctor to marry someday. All girls are different though, and you can't just take a small sample size and give the broad title of "women" suggesting that all women are like that, cause we're not.
Woggle Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I don't mind making a woman feel special but I know she would do the same for me. What men have an issue with is when some women expect the world from a man but if you ask them to return the favor they act like you are trying to take their right to vote. I can't speak for other men but if it is mutual between us I have no issue at all making a woman feel special.
Feelin Frisky Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 It's because women ARE men. They are not a secondary species on a grand hierarchy built by a man god. They are female men and men are male women. It's just to say that women have been placed into a hierarchical order for a few thousand years and treated as "less thans". If that is to end after so much of a time and so much personal suffering, everyone needs to observe this change and get it into their noggin. Many young people just take it for granted that women are already free as men to do what they want but there are others still alive who remember the days when that was not so. Join me for a moment as I review: Before the Eisenhower administration in the 1950s there was no "national highway system". So, women lived much as they had for the previous 150 years in America--traveling only a small distance from their home and not having big professional careers. Since coaches, horses and public transportation like trains made it tough on women (compared to men who could just pee of a horse in mid flight), ladies wore the cloths of acceptance of their roles. They were the matrons of the house hold and that was that. When the national highway system was lain and the post-war boom proceeded in America, the 1960's came in with a bang (Kennedy's head not withstanding). Since girls now had the power to go to college on their own, dads had the money to send them because of their piece of post-war property and automobiles made it safe, America and the world changed to a great degree--accepting women in all manner of new roles with new dress and image. But history doesn't get wiped away so easy. Power in the economy was controlled by men and for a long long time when there was no unemployment and no social security men saw a "job" as a life or death thing. With a job they could have kids and be married. Without a job they could be a soldier or a bum or just go off an die. Men wanted to keep jobs. This is why they didn't want women competing for them. The tradition has hung on--even though unemployment, social security and social safety nets try to make men's falls not so hard. There is still the sense that a man is the power and there has to be a reason for that--not everyone is complacent about losing out on economic opportunity and some wish the ladies would just lie down and be girls.
LeaningIntoTheMuse Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I've noticed just as many men trying to be like women. An example is this guy: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_OGNyskFRCMo/TU8EyVKo8MI/AAAAAAAAAHU/j2tm6scDB1I/s1600/bill-kaulitz-tokio-hotel-20081208-476657.jpg Not to say that there's anything wrong with that. As far as I'm concerned, there is no "gender role." I even wrote a paper on this, how gender roles are based on upbringing, and not necessarily because of their gender. Oh, and I'm a bit girly. I love Desperate Housewives, Christina Aguilera and Katy Perry, and like chick flicks. And also have long hair down to my shoulders. Oh, and I'm straight as well.
