eerie_reverie Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but is there such a thing as universal attractiveness? If so, describe someone you believe to be irresistable.
Kamille Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 George Clooney. That smile. It is probably single-handedly responsible for melting the ice cap on the North Pole.
Author eerie_reverie Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 George Clooney. That smile. It is probably single-handedly responsible for melting the ice cap on the North Pole. Haha, I don't see it at all with George Clooney. He is too suave for my tastes.
Kamille Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Haha, I don't see it at all with George Clooney. He is too suave for my tastes. What about you? Anyone you would nominate for Universally attractive? I have to admit, I am fascinated by Marilyn Monroe's beauty. So my second nominee is Marilyn. Oh, and I find Grace Kelly to be beautiful, but painfully skinny.
pineapples Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but is there such a thing as universal attractiveness? If so, describe someone you believe to be irresistable. I actually (as a woman) see a few women irresistible (a colleague from work, or a girl I knew a few years ago at school). I always thought they were universally attractive. And I just remembered, I know a guy as well, an old friend of mine. He is just sooo handsome! Wherever he goes, women turn their heads. He is everybody's type if you know what I mean. I hate to say it, but yes, there is such thing.
Eternal Sunshine Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I am not into George Clooney either... BTW I would be more interested in universal female attractiveness.
Feelin Frisky Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I'd like to have kids from my own ethnic background and to me the perfect gene source would be NBC's Nora O'Donnell. She's got those Irish eyes and the right politics. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3080442/ns/msnbc_tv-meet_the_faces_of_msnbc/ I also go ga-ga for CBS' Lara Logan http://www.laraloganfansite.com/
pineapples Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Let me also add that Universal Attractiveness as such is associated with lust in my understanding. You see it, you want it. If you get it, it loses its charm pretty fast.
TouchedByViolet Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Yes there is. I have to agree that Clooney is a good looking man, no homo. I was recently looking at pictures of Elizabeth Taylor in her younger days and dayummmm she was fine. 100% universal attraction
Knittress Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I think there are a lot of universally attractive people walking around. It's just that we're so used to seeing stunners on the television that we tend to tune out normal-hotness.
Author eerie_reverie Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 I see it more with women than men. Of course it takes a certain personality, but in terms of looks, I'd say Jessica Alba is universally attractive. There are women that I think are much more beautiful, but I don't think they would appeal to everyone (ex: Charlize Theron, Scarlett Johanssen, Natalie Portman.) However, I can't see anyone saying no to Jessica Alba.
Kamille Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I love this thread. I think the only possible conclusion we will reach is that no one agrees on who is "universally attrative", thus proving that universal attractiveness doesn't exist. But if I go on a more abstract level, someone universally attractive is healthy, has a winning smile, has an open attitude, probably big striking eyes, a calm and collected demeanor.
Author eerie_reverie Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 I think the requirements to appeal to everyone are: -pretty face -not distinctive in the face (Jessica Biel) -not too blonde (Charlize Theron) -not too exotic (Catherine Zeta Jones) -not too thin (Natalie Portman) -not too tall (Charlize Theron) -flat belly -C + cup -curvy sas
Kamille Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Gabriel Aubrey. drool Indeed! Yowzer! And Daphne made me think: Catherine Zeta Jones. Definitely a stunning beauty.
Author eerie_reverie Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 Audrey Hepburn. And the Old Spice Guy. I serioulsy doubt that Audrey Hepburn appeals to EVERYONE. No doubt she is beautiful, but I can't see the types of guys who like big-boobed blondes chasing her.
Author eerie_reverie Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 (edited) Indeed! Yowzer! And Daphne made me think: Catherine Zeta Jones. Definitely a stunning beauty. Catherine Zeta Jones is so gorgeous. She is in my personal top 5. But I think she's too exotic looking to appeal to the bimbo-loving contingent. Edited March 28, 2011 by eerie_reverie

I'm uncomfortable with the exotic criteria. Does that mean only "white-northern-european-descent" people qualify? Penelope Cruz and Hale Berry would put that to the test. Which reminds me of another male favorite: Blair Underwood. Again. That smile!
daphne Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Indeed! Yowzer! I love him so hard. sigh. Catherine Zeta Jones is so gorgeous. She is on my personal top 5. But I think she's too exotic looking to appeal to the bimbo-loving contingent. Can't understand why she married her daddy though.
kiss_andmakeup Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I would consider Angelina Jolie universally attractive: big eyes, full lips, gorgeous skin, perfect proportional hourglass figure. Perhaps she is a little on the "dark" or "exotic" side for some though. I love the less "universal" beauties though; I have a serious lady-crush on Natalie Portman.

I find Natalie Portman to be a more classic beauty than Angelina Jolie.
USMCHokie Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I would consider Angelina Jolie universally attractive... Disagree. Seriously overrated. Kate Beckinsale.

If we are talking about the US, I would argue that "not exotic" is a requirement to have a shot at appealing to everyone. If there is such a thing as universal attractiveness. That said, I was referring more to features than skin color with the "exotic" thing. IMO, both Penelope Cruz and Halle Berry have less distinctive, exotic features than Catherine Zeta Jones. But that's just my opinion.
Star Gazer Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I'm uncomfortable with the exotic criteria. Does that mean only "white-northern-european-descent" people qualify? CZJ is Welsh...which doesn't strike me as "exotic"...?
