Online Dating again... ;)

I just discovered that an old (female) friend signed up on the dating site I'm using. There is no past history between us or anything. We've just been plain old friends for about 10 years now and we don't really do much together (maybe hang out twice a year or so together with other friends).

Still, I find it really awkward to see her there. I prefer keeping my online dating activities on the down low. Not really sure if maybe I'm kinda embarassed about it and afraid people will find out or something. Dunno. Maybe I just like to keep my dating activities private in general, even more with the internet involved.

Anyways, I immediately deleted my picture. lol Am I overreacting and being kind of childish? Should I just not care? Has anything like that happened to one of you guys? How would you deal with it? Maybe write her in a funny way?

Interested in your experiences and opinions. Thanks in advance.

I can totally relate. A guy I was pretty good friends with in college was one of the FIRST people to view my match.com profile. I hadn't talked to him in about two years, and seeing his picture on there was SO AWKWARD.

I pretended it didn't happen and kept my profile up for another 3 weeks, but after that I deleted my picture quickly. I figured he had already seen it so I might as well not tear it down just yet.

He never mentioned it to me, nor I him. I've only seen him once since, and I still felt weird around him. The reason I didn't want to put my picture up in the first place was because I didn't want people to see it.

I made a post about it on here and the consensus was pretty much 'suck it up, he's online dating too, so don't be embarrassed, its 2011, just keep it up.'

Essentially-- yes you're over reacting and being childish.

I always figured a great time to do it would be if you moved to a different place. At least, from my perspective.

Well, I'm afraid you're right. I think I was quick enough to remove my picture before she discovered me, but now I'm really hesitating to put one back on. Good reason to focus on the real world. :p
