folieadeux Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 This thread got me thinking: http://www.loveshack.org/forums/t269458/ For anyone who wants to share, how did you and your SO first meet? I'm imagining there will be quite the stories on here. My boyfriend and I met at a Biffy Clyro show.
lonely79 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Ok, I;ll go... we met at work, actually. worked together (not closely, not in the same dept) for about 3 years before we started hanging out and getting to know each other, but our timing was off in the worst way and now we're LD
Citizen Erased Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Well, everyone knows mine. But I saw BC when they opened for Muse and they were good.
heartshaped Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 I met him online through a personal ad I had out. We were both a little apprehensive at first because of the distance, although it's not nearly as much as some [just five or so hours apart]. We talked strictly online for a few months and got on cam together a few times before meeting up the day before his birthday. We've been together ever since.
Author folieadeux Posted March 18, 2011 Author Posted March 18, 2011 Well, everyone knows mine. But I saw BC when they opened for Muse and they were good. Gah, I love them. We met the band that night and got pics with Simon.
creighton0123 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Stick with me on this one. I was dating another guy at the time (been seeing one another for two months), dealing with the "long distance relationship" of a two and a half hour drive from Boston to Portland, ME. It was his turn to come down here. We went to a local area gay club (Club Cafe, for anyone who knows the Boston gay scene). We get to the club, get inside, have a drink or two and then start dancing. I decide to hook up with a bachelorette party there - since that's what gay guys do when a bunch of straight girls show up at our club. Anyhow, ex boyfriend says he is going to get another drink. That's fine. I'll stay on the stage with the girls. Half an hour passes and I wonder where he is. I spot him making out with another guy. Okay. He's drunk. It happens. He eventually came back to the stage sans drink and introduces me to a girl, "his good friend". He then walked away and she stuck on me like a vulture on a fresh carcass. I later realized it was because this cute, skinny boy was dancing closer and closer to me. Anyhow, I continued dancing because it's what I do. I told this younger, blond, cute boy that I would dance with him, but not do anything since I was "here" with my boyfriend. I'll shorten things up in a list. The following events happened: 1. Cute boy and I had MAJOR sparks beyond just the fuel of alcohol. Neither of us had had that much to drink. 2. Ex boyfriend had been spotted making out with at least ten other guys 3. I told the vulture to leave me the hell alone, finding out that she met ex boyfriend only that night and agreed to keep an eye on me. 4. The night accelerated and the girls had fun 5. Cute boy and I had gone outside and sat on a bench and chatted up. He kissed me. I kissed back. I got his number. 6. Club closed at 2AM... as clubs in Boston do. 7. Ex boyfriend came out at 3AM (I stood outside in the cold for an hour waiting for him). 8. Ex boyfriend wanted me to get a ride home with one of his "friends" (driver had obviously had too much to drink). I took a cab home by myself. 9. I gathered ex boyfriends stuff up, walked it outside and put it on the hood of his car. I kept his car keys. 10. Ex boyfriend tried to call me to get in. I told him to sleep in his car and I would give him breakfast, water, let him use the shower, and his keys in the morning. 11. Ex boyfriend and I broke up that morning. 12. I called cute boy that afternoon. 13. Cute boy and I went out for breakfast the next morning 14. Cute boy and I made out in broad daylight (no one in Boston really cares). 15. Cute boy informed me he was going to Japan for a year. We decided to have a fun month before he left. He became boyfriend. Things have been awesome since. And that, my friends, is how I met Boyfriend.
HeavenOrHell Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 He contacted me on a dating/friendship site in Jan '10, not a well known or general one, but one which is just for people with our particular shared interest, (one of our most important shared interests). I would say which one but want to stay anonymous And it's been downhill from there JOKE! I still feel amazed and lucky to met have someone so special, I really felt I wouldn't meet anyone special again after losing who I thought was the love of my life (well he was for 18 years), I am very picky when it comes to men, unconventional in my tastes so I was lucky that the first person I went out with after my break up was the person I wanted a LTR with

Cathster Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Well, my SO and I met in Tesco's (a UK grocery store). Lol. Not exactly the most romantic of places! My parents were dropping me back at university, and took me food shopping to stock up for the semester. My dad unsurprisingly disappeared off, bored, and eventually reappeared about an hour later to say that he had bumped into his colleague who was also dropping his son back at university. Slightly weird coincidence we thought, as this colleague was also from our hometown four hours away, so to bump into each other in this massive city hours from home was extremely unlikely! Anyway, we were just at the checkout when we bumped into the colleague again, and he introduced us to his son. I remember thinking 'oh he's quite cute' but not thinking anything more of it until about a week later he added me on Facebook, we got to talking, and within a month we were together, heh. And now four years later, two years of which we lived together, and have only recently just started our LDR - definitely not how I expected things to work out but I'm happy
Taucher Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Well, my SO and I met in Tesco's (a UK grocery store). Lol. Not exactly the most romantic of places! I have heard quite often that supermarkets are good places to meet people. Never managed it myself but did nearly manage it in a Waitrose once I love reading these stories! ME and my SO (Fiance!) met in a bar in Greenwich, in London (where I live). My friend Matt met her on the Internet; he is nearly fluent in Spanish and wanted to meet people to improve his Spanish and my SO wanted to meet people to improve her English so they both put ads on Gumtree and met up. Thing is, he knew her for a year before he invited her to a night out with his friends (ie me and others). We could have met so much earlier! So he came into the bar and I was imediately like "Wow!" and I spent the whole night talking to her. We started going out properly a month later and have been inseperable ever since (well, as inseperable as you can be for 4 months while 5000 miles apart but you know what I mean). Best thing that ever happened to me. And 3 weeks today we will be together again! T
aerogurl87 Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 My boyfriend and I met online. Honestly when we first talked, the only reason I thought about dating him was because his profile had "willing to relocate" on it and I thought he was thinking of moving to the US soon. Had it not said that, I wouldn't have messaged him back, and then I wouldn't have an awesome breakfast cooking, bringing me lunch to work, hard working, and loving boyfriend that I have now.
LittleTiger Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 We met on a sports/fitness site (dating and friendship) and neither of us was looking for a new relationship. I enjoy hiking and was fed up walking alone since my exH left so I was looking for local hikers to team up with at weekends. My SO is a trail/mountain runner and was hoping to make some new contacts and friends in the international running world. I have no idea how he found me online - neither does he - but he sent me an email. My first response was - hey nice to meet you, maybe we can be penpals . I mean, lets face it, 12,000 miles is a bit of a stretch for anything more - he certainly wasn't going to be free for a weekend hike at short notice! Since that first email we've been in contact virtually every day. Emails progressed to msn, phone and skype and two months later he bought a flight to England. The rest, as they say, is history.
Author folieadeux Posted March 19, 2011 Author Posted March 19, 2011 Gosh, these are all so wonderful.
Omei Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 (edited) Always thought my story sounded a bit unreal, weird or silly....But it actually worked out.... I started played world of warcraft about 4-5 years ago and I had a small group of friends one of who I was friend's with the entire time (my so), we agreed to always be online friend's. We talked about everything together about our relationships and lives, a few years passed by and we were both single by then and we slowly started flirting but never called each other GF/BF untill one day we decided to meet and take the relationship seriously we fell in love, I have known him for quite a few years but we've been together now for 2 years as a couple almost 3. We don't play World Of Warcraft together anymore we grew out of it, we never had the online bf/gf issues gamers seem to have ether, we're still doing lots of things together online between the visits. Surprisingly out of past live-in longer term relationships, I feel that this one has been my most commited, and happiest I have been, I hope it last's longer and longer, At first our relationship seemed impossible (me in Canada him in America) but each year that go's by I see more and more of a one day end. (P.s Sometimes I think all the distance makes a couple stronger, kinda like it's been difficult to do so there's no giving up now!) Edited March 20, 2011 by Omei
impz Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Let's see. I met my wife through the anime blog I wrote (it used to be very famous a few years ago). We started conversing through comments, slowly transited to email, IM, before realizing we are probably better off dating each other. After combating 8,500 miles, 18 hours of flight and a terrible timezone difference for four long years (just turned 4!), we finally settled in my country. It is still a huge struggle (I don't seem to be able to get her permanent residence as yet, only a long term visitor pass) but things are definitely better off now. I have a decent career, and just received a nice performance bonus for it. Time to have a mini celebration for our upcoming 1st year wedding anniversary I have to say this even though it's ironic, but I think this LDR made me somewhat weary of LDR anymore. It's not that it is bad or anything, but I am so used to her being around me that it feels weird if she's away from me for even a week. I don't think I can survive another 4 years of this
TokyoG33kyGal Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 (edited) LOL, i just realized that today is actually the day when we had our first chat. i met him in this dating website which i abandoned for months cuz i cannot find a guy i can date locally. he got on there with the same idea, to find a girl closer to him but also can't find anyone LOL. so he tried changing his search parameters by changing the location to anywhere. he said i was like in the first page and the only one from Japan. he didn't send me any messages but i made my profile to notify me when someone 'favorited' me (which he did). when i got home, i checked who viewed my profile, it was him. plays video games, and wow...he had this smile that felt so magnetic LOL. since he's far away, i was like "f*ck it, i'm just gonna send him a message and we can be chat mates." he had the same agenda, just to be chat mates with me when i got to talk to him in the chat. our first chat lasted for 5 hours! i never talked with anyone for that long. it takes only 5 minutes to bore the sh*t out of me. but we're so alike. i told him that it was such a shame he's so far away cuz i'd be trying to date him LOL. then from there, we randomly chat until he made his trip to Maryland to train for his job. he said he wants to focus on getting to know me more since he's growing fond of me. after his training we tried to setup an online game/chat date. we were obsessed with Borderlands and Gears of War 2, and we flirted a lot while playing those LOL. here's the funny thing. i met someone prior to meeting him and the guy gave me a fortune reading for free. he said, i am gonna meet my "Knight of Swords." he said this guy would come from a distant place and would meet me because of my intelligence. he said he could be a gemini or a pisces. well, when my fiance told me he's coming to meet me, he said my intelligence is what set me apart and broke him down. he never wanted a long distance relationship but our chemistry is just undeniable. he is a pisces, btw. aspence24 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 We dated when I was 16, he was 18... Then again when I was 18! We ending up breaking up, I was heart broken and always missed him. 7 years later, we reconnected on FB a couple years ago. I was married, but a little over a year ago we split up.. We stayed friends all the way up until this past November when he confused he's missed me for years and is still in love with me... We've been together ever since! He's had my heart for 12 years!
ShatteredReality Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 When we were 17 we had a mutual friend and I was in an e-mail fwd she sent to us both. He snagged my aol name off of there and added me to his AIM acct. I happened to be online one night when he was and he IMed me (this sounds so cheesy...LOL but it gets better I swear). Anyhow I was getting ready to log off when he sent me a message. He asked how I was doing and I responded "I'm doing GREAT, how are you?" or something to that effect - very overly bubbly. I thought he was this hottie I had chatted with a week or so before who lived 3000 miles away and was excited he found me again since I had forgotten to add him to my friends list. We wound up chatting all night until I had to get ready for school the following morning. That night we chatted again, but this time I gave him my phone number and let him call me...it was long distance because he lived a town over (30 min drive) and he said he'd rather pay the LD bill for our first voice meeting, so I let him. (I was responsible for my own phone bill). We spoke on the phone until his parents got up (by now it was Saturday) and we agreed we each needed a nap. About three hours later I went and told my dad about him - said I just wanted to be honest but I had met this boy and I realy liked him. That I didn't plan on meeting him or anything, but I wanted it out in the open cause I already knew he'd show up on my phone bill and I was warning him. So my dad said 'Call the boy up, let's take him to lunch. I don't care what you say now, you'll eventually want to meet him and I prefer to be there when you do. I'd also like to meet his parents because if you two start dating or anything I'd like to know them too.' So that afternoon we drove to where he lived and my dad treated us to lunch. That's how we met.
wild_urge Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 We met through friends, may be around mid February 2008, the funny thing is that for Valentine’s day that same year, his sister had given him a card and it said "blablabla . . . I hope soon you will find a girl that will give a deeper meaning to your life" . . . We had another great moment, may be two months after we started being together, we went to see a movie and the we separated at the metro station, i got on the bus and he got on his bike going to his sister's house to sleep over and as I was on the bus I couldn't stop thinking about him and I hoped that he might follow me with his bike, i got off the bus and obviously he wasn't there, so I just sat down on the front door for a while and he came !!! I couldn't believe, we didn't plan it, we were just thinking of the same thing. It felt sooo nice. And by the way, I know that it's not really on the subject, but he sent me card last Friday, usually it takes it about two weeks to get here, may be one, I got it today, on my birthday. I find that it is special, it got here in less than three working days, across the whole ocean . . . it really made my day special !
